With games like Halo and Final Fantasy dominating all the video gaming buzz, a lot of fantastic games get missed by oh so many. Games that were just fantastic and yet nobody played them. This thread will be some of those recommendations of games we should get off our lazy a$$es and play.

My first two thoughts are Psychonaugts and Panzer Dragoon Orta. Panzer Dragoon Orta is actually the game I purchased an XBOX just to play. A good old rail shooter with great graphics for its time. Psychonaugts was as good as platforming gets.

Alright lets get out those recommendations so we (mostly me) can play some of these gems.

Final Fantasy 7 fortunately i managed to buy a copy last year for $5 :D

Xenogears. It was blinded by the popularity of the Final Fantasy series. I encourage everyone who likes RPGs to try this game! It is for the Playstation... so blow the dust off and find a copy of Xenogears.

I highly recommend any of the Shin Megami Tensei games. They are really great if you like your RPGs with a bit of difficulty.

I think Ico should be mentioned. I can't find it anywhere. Never played it, but heard it was wonderful from the handful that did.

I guess I should mention Shadow of the Colossus, too. I don't know how many people have played it, but neither Ico nor SotC have their own galleries at MT despite being gorgeous masterpieces, so I assume they aren't extremely popular.
uh, look for my post in the favorite ps2 game thread to see my opinion of SotC.

And another game that I myself should have played but didn't is Link's Awakening. It's more of a personal beef because it's the only Zelda game I haven't played yet, and therefore the only one other than the first two that I haven't beaten. Several thousand times. And I'm quite obsessive about the Zelda series, so it bothers me a lot.

I recommend Katamari for it's random awesome addictiveness.

ouch...i think my life wouldn't be the same if i didn't play FF7 when it came out lol

*cough* anywho... Xenogears is def one of them that i'm sorry to say I had to beat later in life...
along with Tales of Symphonia, Valkyrie Profile, Paper Mario, Skies of Arcadia, Fire Emblem, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Shenmue,

Yea I'm pretty sure that everybody and their grandmother have long ago played that game. Although the comment above about Shin Megami games I can attest to. Good choice for sure.

one of the games I love for PS1 is Parasite Eve 1 & 2, is really a good game. Though I heard a long time ago that Square was going to make a remake of this 2...

I agree, the Parasite Eve series was one of the underrated games, it was like Resident Evil with an RPG system and Parasite Energy (Magic) and plus it had a pretty interesting storyline. It was very fun to play especially with the MM1 (12 Slot Grenade Launcher). It kicked arse, especially against the tough Golems and made it easier to defeat the last boss :D

Oh yeah I heard there was a live-action movie based off the first game, but it acts more like a prequel to the Parasite Eve 1 Game/Novel. I also read on wikipedia that there were rumours in 2002 about there might be a Parasite Eve 3 game, but it's been 5 years and nothing has happened, although it hasn't been denied by SquareEnix that there aren't thinking of making it. Yeah it'll be good to have a remake of Parasite Eve 2, maybe even put a multiplayer function on it or have Kyle be more often in your party.

Hmmmmmmm another underrated game, Well back in the late 90s a game called "Enemy Infestation", it's pretty much an RTS (Real Time Strategy) gamed combined with a bit of puzzle solving. It's set in the future and is about an Alien POD that crash lands on a distant planet now used as a research base by Humans, and the Aliens start multiplying and invading, trying to take over the planet.

So in the game is pretty much like chapter base and you have to complete each mission to open up new missions, and each kinda relates back to the previous ones.

During the mission you control a set of people that have fields of specialies, such as soliders, a lock-smith to lock doors to prevent aliens from entering through certain rooms, a researcher to enhance weapons to help give combatitive advantages over the Aliens. You also have to complete certain objectives in the mission, and during the mission you can find weapons and objects laying all over the map. The interesting thing is that some effects of the objects are unknown and can be either good or bad........

It's especially fun when you play it with 1-3 other people through multiplay, so you can all battle Aliens together :D

The game is hard to get these days, I couldn't even find a download for it, I had to ask a favour from my friend to get me a copy of ebay. It's pretty cheap, I got a brand new copy for I think around $5 US.

So another game that was underrated, probably because of the popularity of Starcraft during that time.

Hmm... does Disgaea, La Pucelle Tactics, Makai Kingdom, and a whole bunch of SRPGs count?

They seem to be the underdogs of RPGs in terms of media exposure.. but they're really fun with the non-serious comedic mood and chraracters.

Not to mention it can become addictive if you want to power level your characters after you've finished the story >:D

The 2D graphics and anime style is probably the only thing I can think of that might put some people off.. but that's what I personally love about it :D

I agree with Parasite Eve... I haven't played it yet. TwT

Arc the Lad Collection for psone, Custom Robo for the 'cube, Fire Emblems for gba and the 'cube, theres more that i missed though . . .

Valkyrie Profile I and II, Vagrant Story (PS1) a great game, growlancer... and others

Almost no one played Zettai Zatsumei Toshi or SOS The Final Escape as it was called in europe.
It was about a journalist that went to a newly built city on an island. Soon the city starts t sink and had to try and escape through the collapsing city, while figuring out why the city was sinking.

It was great because earthquakes could hit at any time and you could get hit by rubble and trucks and many other things. Sure the graphics were mostly of the grey variant, but the game was really exciting to play. You were also forced to take care of a girl ICO-style (yes I was one of the 25000 people i europe that ever bought and played it when it was released the first time).

If I'm not mistaken, SOS was called Disaster report in the US.

Play it, if you can find it!

fallout, baldurs gate series, icewind dale series, disgaea

GT5~! well gona wait til august haha what a sad case eh?

The Front Mission series! If there's something I've earned a Doctorate on, its gotta be these games... and Fire Emblem prolly.

But only a few people actually have played this games... give them a chance!

NiGHTS into Dreams for Sega Saturn.

from memory, about the only games that come to mind would be Nippon Ichi Titles besides Digaea such as Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, La Pucelle, Soul Nomad... Etc...

it's quite possible some folk have played these, but more then likely, not.

Good Games they are.

Heh, I actually played all of those games! Though I missed Disgaea 2. I don't know what I was thinking that made me miss it though. That and Valkyrie Profile 2 and Odin Sphere. I'm pretty sure that I would have fallen in love with those games.

Thief and it's sequels for the PC. You play Garret, a master thief in a city that appears to be somewhere between The Middle Ages and the Victorian era with some primitive technology tossed in. You can't go around killing people in this game, you usually have sneak by them or knock them out, while stealing, meeting mission objectives, and trying to go unnoticed. You have to use the shadows to hide, listen for guards, and watch what you are walking on and how fast because if you make to much noise walking/running across a wooden or marble floor, the guards might come looking for you. It can be an entertaining and very challenging game(usually).

i tend to play everything..... =/ i never want to miss out on anything... like i got the older gen consoles, all 3, ps2, xbox, gamecube xP
and prior i had ps1 and stuff.. prior..... snes bleh bleh bleh and you get the idea
pc is the only one thats hard...... cause i needa keep upping my compy =/... wanna play crysis so badly

All my friends tell me that FF7 is an amazing game, but I just can't get into it. Everytime I play it i get bored really quickly. It's not the story or reading all the text that gets me either. It's the combat. The whole menu fighting thing just isn't fun for me. If it works for you, thats cool, but it really takes me out of the experience and bores me to tears. Also, some of the bad guys you right are a little goofy. I'm all for unique enemies, but I like a justification for why they are there. I'm still confused as to why I was randomly attacked by a giant egg who proceeded to spawn two mini eggs. And, I'm still not sure how he attacked me with no arms or legs.

Two other games I still need to get around to playing are Sin Episodes and Beyond Good and Evil.
