Well, said goodbye to Germany, and said hello to California - with a twist.
Forgot my username and password here and pretty much gave it up. In that time I
continued upgrading my system to near perfection:
Added an AMD 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core processor
Added an additional 500gb Hard Drive (now I am running over a TB worth of
storage
Switched from two Nvidia 6800 GS cards to one Nividia 8800gtx card
Added a new 550w Power supply
Increased my anime collection to about 20% (need to start burning them on dvds
now)
And finally switched from Windows XP to Windows Vista.
Everything is nearly flawless: I need to jump from 2 gigs to 4 gigs of RAM,
switch to a better cooling system (factory fans suck), overclock the processor,
and throw in one more 8800gtx......
By the way, while sitting here in Korea, I finally figured out my password! Now I
gotta wait till April so I can hunt down some more pics!
for those who has Vista, you should try out the
Windows DVD maker, I like it!
Quote by tiki223Running 2 8800gtx in SLI
on a 550w psu is overkill.
Yeah cool, isn't it......
On a serious note, the reason for the needed increase of RAM and possibly
another video card is because of one program; Flight Simulator X. It requires
the speed and power of a high end computer, then asks for more! I may need to
bump up on the power too if I want to add another card and
overclock......overall, I like the new setup, and I like for it to be a little
faster when it comes to encoding and creating DVDs.
From what I've read, FSX lags even on a high end system. If I were you, I'll
wait for a
patch and see if they fix that issue.
If you still want to go with SLI then go right ahead, but in order to take
advantage of these
cards, you will have to run at high resolutions.
As for Vista if you think 4gb isn't enough and would like to upgrade more, you
will not be
able to if you are using the 32bit edition.
Yeah the Vista 32-bit systems are whats out at the moment, gotta wait for the 64
bit ones later. I am going to try to increase the RAM when I get back from
Korea. The next 8800gtx will not be bought until May. What I should be doing is
converting over to a liquid-cooled system, but now I want another
case.....that'll be three cases in less than a year! Maybe I should seek a
custom paint job........
That's one nice system you have there.
How is the noise on the system? I have a somewhat medium-high-end PC but spent
some money on keeping it quiet (originally it felt like I was living next to a
highway)

nothing to do with system ram.
Graphic memory, and system memory are different things.
But any 32bit operating system can only use 4gb of memory total. Including
system RAM, graphics memory, and the BIOS ROM.

Discrete graphic cards has its own dedicated memory and that's
what the 8800gtx has. It has nothing to do with system ram.
If it's onboard graphic card, then it will take away some of the system's
ram.

Its not really loud, but it can be built to be quieter, but you'll scarifice fan
speed for heat. And thats not a good thing. I will switch to a liquid colling
system when I can find a store that sells them.

If you're running the 32 bit version of Vista, you're limited to 4 GB of RAM total (including video memory). And if you're planning on SLIing two 8800's that's already around 1.5 GB of video memory.
here's a link describing it: http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/pcs/why-you-probably-cant-use-4gb-of-ram-on-your-pc-243083.php
If you're using the 64 bit version, you won't have this problem though.
