It is a question that is rising more and more in our society today - What is homosexuality? A genetic variation? An aberration of abnormal upbringing? A moral depravity? Or just a different kind of love? And, more importantly, what should be done about it?
And so, we come to the main topic of this debate. Is homosexuality, in your opinion, right or wrong?
(Remember, "right" and "wrong" cover far more than just morality- feel free to explore them in a religious and social sense as well)
RULES: ABSOLUTELY NO FLAMING! This is a discussion, not a bar fight. Please try and be civil. I know this is a pretty hot issue, but if you start bashing anybody for their opinions, I will assassinate you
.
Also, be sure to back up your opinions if you expect us to take them seriously. Thanks!

Personally, I'm totally against homosexuality ( I'll say Sorry to the people who are)
Although i cannot say heterosexuality is any better seeing all the horrible pornographic materials, I don't find homosexuality as actual love for some reason.......
First of all...... let me think.......
If we look at the human anatomy, male and females are kinda like pieces of puzzle that covers for each other's weak points
Although I'm not too sure about the female anatomy, seeing that most males are sexually stimulated when seeing female body, I see heterosexuality more natural
Also since male/female relationship can actually create something..... meaning a baby, I see that as more practical than homosexuality where there is no product.....
And in most people's minds, they don't find homosexuality appealing....... I guess that is why many states and nations have banned it
Something like natural instinct to pick out what seems wrong
Like killing........ even if nobody tells you, you know that killing is wrong because of our consciousness......
Although I think that murder was a bad example, I think that majority of the people think that homosexuality according to their ethical perspective
By the way..... you haven't mentioned your side of the stance....... Dark
I do not agree with homosexuality and I believe it to a unnatural. However I also believe in a individuals right to choice and not have others interfere in their personal preferences. I also firmly believe that there should be no special laws or rules for homosexuals (or any minority) as they are a waste of time and money for the taxpayer. We have plenty of laws already and those should be enforced (or reinterpreted or removed) based on the will of the people.
Yeah I agree that it's individual's choice.........
But humans seem to be the only creatures always breaking off from the natural cycle..........
Like........ we don't see animals or insects that are homosexual...... also animals and insects don't create war for the sake of pride, money, ethnicity or whatever.....
I guess as long as there are certain boundaries, we should listen to the people's will instead of the government making all the rules when they say they're listening to the people
no offence here. but i dun tink it is a correct thing nor i disagree tt it is a nice thing. but approval of homosexual marriage can bring a lot of effects on society and other aspects of our life. it is really a tough prob whether if there is legalisation of homosexual marriage... =)
See I dount even know why this should even be an issue I belive 100 percent that they should get married. Theres nothing wrong with that, they should have the same shot at marrage, hell mabie they would have longer lasting marrages then heterosexiols
Well as much as it seems reasonable for you to find homosexuality acceptable, I find it out of the ordinary why there even is homosexuality........
with this i have to disagree.... wikipedia has a list with animals that display homosexual behavior. you can find it here. i knew it happened, but was a little
as for me, i'm totally for marriage and acceptance. they should be treated normally and not as weirdos/freaks of nature, etc....
i have to agree with Mnemeth, having special regulations for minorities is a bit weird.... we're all people, so why so many laws?
I don't really trust wikipedia since it is known that anybody can go and change the content in there...... and seeing that there isn't any other alternate sites supporting that premise, I doubt if that really is true seeing that most articles on wikipedia that are valid has at least one or two alternative references
And even if animals/insects do have homosexual instincts, it is usually because they are born with it or because the environment demands it........
Like those....... animals or insects that I don't remember can change their gender when it is necessary to reproduce and there aren't enough of the opposite gender
There has been homosexuals throught history from bibical times even..
the issue is raised because peolple have a strange mindset they think they are abomitations.this is a teribal mindset it only leads to persicution
this is america they sould have the right to marage and military service they are human biengs to and diserve to be treated as such
What I don't understand is though is why people see disapproval of homosexuality a big deal when there are more serious problems being overlooked like pornography and drugs and all sorts of stuff(sorry if some of them are irrelevant to the topic)
no no your right there are more important isues this issue is one of many diversions aliong with viliont vidio games, stem cell resurch used by the bush admisastration to keep our minds of more important things such as The war, corruption, and scandales
Yeah you got that right
I mean I don't even understand why so many people died in the Iraq war....... What was the point of that war? Or even Vietnam war........
Come to think of it, if homosexuality is to be approved, I see no reason why the US started their policy of Containment to destroy Communism
After all, isn't that a personal belief and preference like homosexuality?...... I mean people seemed to have abused the name of communism and totally altered it to dictatorship but even so, I think communism should be appreciated as well for I support communism
Not the kind of communism today but true communism where everybody is truely equal...... which is bascially impossible with humanity's sin nature........
I wonder if Karl Marx didn't think about that.....
ugh what about communism?
thats not even an issue
depends on what you think an issue is
To answer the popular question, I am standing for homosexuality. Now, there are several reasons to take this stance, but first we'll go over the reasons you guys presented on why not to take this stance.
The first, and the one I saw most often, was that homosexuality isn't natural. Now, the word natural can have several meanings in this case: natural, as in something found in nature, or natural as in something that comes naturally to humans? We'll start with the latter.
So, you'd say that homosexuality is wrong because you can't see yourself, or your friends or family or anyone like that ever being homosexual. I can understand this view: it was a pretty alien concept to me too when I started thinking about it at your age. "What is it about the same sex that can be so attractive? It's pretty weird..."
And I was right. It was pretty weird. It's as weird as it must have been when Europeans first looked southward and found out that there were people with black skin. Does that necessarily make it bad? To say homosexuality is a moral depravity would be to assume that the factors behind it are all psycological. In fact, there is quite a solid bit of evidence out there that there are biological, even genetic agents that may cause homosexuality, specifically relating to the dosage of testosterone you recieve before birth. In other words, being homosexual is becoming widely accepted as something you're born to, not something you choose for yourself.
This article dives into the facts behind that.
Next, you guys were saying that homosexuality isn't natural because it doesn't occur in nature, and has no natural purpose.
At the bottom of this page, there's quite a bit of info on both of those topics. However, I'll go ahead and summarize anyway.
In fact, homosexuality can occur in nature. Among the other results listed in that article, a more famous experiment done in the 1960's involved rats that were placed in a confined space and yet given an unlimited amount of food and water. For anyone who hasn't taken ecology, that means that the rat population would be allowed to grow pretty much unchecked, until the finite space they were in would force them to reach capacity. Some interesting results came out of this. Among these, it was noted that, when the rats started to become overcrowded, many started practicing abnormal sexual behavior. Included in that category: homosexuality. The interesting thing about all this was the the percentage of rats that began doing this about matches the census of humans that are homosexual in many nations: specifically, between 10 and 11%.
Let's take a cultural reference from this. Homosexuality, in some form or another, has had a place in Japanese culture since the samurai days. If you look to Japan itself, it is an island nation where the majority of the land is taken up by mountains, leaving a rather small amount of space in which to farm and live. In fact, the price of a nice, single-story, three bedroom home in Japan could buy you three or four such homes in the United States, if not more. Why? Because Japan is overcrowded. Do you see the connection? Therefore, in reference to your quote, vatican, the fact that homosexuality cannot naturally produce offspring may be one of its main purposes in nature.
Despite this, however, a homosexual couple is fully capable of raising and supporting a healthy, normal child. So , we return to the original question. Is homosexuality right or wrong? We've more or less settled the issue of whether it's natural, but does that make it good or bad? Morally, right and wrong can vary dramatically even between people of the same culture, so we can leave that alone for the moment. In a practical sense, however, homosexuals are a large part of the answer to the adoption issue, among the many other benefits they provide to society. It is believed that Leonardo da Vinci was gay, after all, and Elton John is a homosexual.
Now, I may be unique among you guys in that I know several homosexuals. One of my best friends, in fact, is bisexual. There's nothing wrong with her, or with my other buddies that are gay. In fact, they're great people. I know you'll never meet him, but Cody is one of the funniest people I ever met. Outrageously homosexual. He even introduced me to my now ex-girlfriend. My other friends, Kyle and Damon, have a much more stable, fulfilling relationship than I've managed to achieve with a girl. Once again, homosexual.
In short, people who are homosexual are no different than you or I. Living, going through school, hooking up and breaking up, they hardly seem "unnatural" to me.
(Not to pick on you, Vatican, but you did the best job summing up the other point of view
)
Just a question, do any of you guys base your beliefs on religion?
Also, despite the majority of you guys thinking homosexuality is wrong, a most of you voted for gay marraige. Why?
wikipedia isn't the only one with an article like this. don't believe me? google "homosexual behavior in animals" and you'll find lots of stuff.... there's even an exhibition in the at the oslo natural history museum about this topic (it's open till august 17, 2007 ). and i even found a book on amazon called Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity by Bruce Bagemihl.
one of my closest friends is a gay guy with a very big heart and a talent in singing to die for and believe me when i say i can't find a difference between him and a straight person. he acts normal (by social standards) and is having the same problems as we all do. as dark said, it doesn't seem "unnatural". and to be honest, i agree with what he said 100%.
I can do nothing but agree with you darkspiral486, I've known many gays in my time, oddly enough more female gays than male (it seems previous posters have been looking at only male gays). To relate homosexuality to natural instincts dies with one simple concept, Love. Do people get married because they want to reproduce and save the species? No, they get married because they love each other as people and want to spend a life together, children have become the by-product of this relationship (an increasingly accidental one). Why should gays get the short end.
Marriage has pretty much degraded into law and paperwork these days anyway with so many marriages lasting less than 2 years. If gays were aloud to marry (judging from those I've met), those that chose to tie the know would have no intention of breaking it. I haven't heard any real defence as to what's so wrong about gay marriages, the only thing I have heard is the religious argument. Some have said it's against the bible to allow gay marriages......but not that long ago in history didn't this same bible forbid black and white people from marrying? Thankfully most people have grown up and dark skinned people have the equal rights they deserve, so when will the same be able to be said for homosexuals.
I'm not gay (although I've been hit on by enough of them) and I'm inclined to say I'm against homosexuality, but at the same time I still recognise that these people have their own reasons and so long as they don't force their belief onto me, I'm more than happy to accept them. At the same time homosexuality is something I haven't personally felt, however I realised, if there is a guy out there who could make me fall in love with him, good luck to him.
I'm heterosexual and I think homosexual behavior is weird. In fact, I don't simpathize with homosexuality. It's in my rights. But, one of my duties is human respect. I take it as being able to respect other ones' rights, be heterosexual, homosexual or (soon) machine, and being able to accept and live with different beings. It's real love. Homosexual marriage is respecting homosexuals civil rights. It's correct, and I support it.
Whoa........ seems like I stirred up a lot of trouble......

Yay! I like being the center of the attention
So let's get back to the discussion........
I was just referring that if Homosexuality should be something acceptable to human society (not saying that it shouldn't be) I believe that communism should be also........ so yeah
I agree that I cannot decide what is natural or not since every individual matters....... so I guess what people think of "normal" is, is probably a stereotypical conception
Mmm....... I'm not saying I think homosexual people are any less better than heterosexuals (believe me...... I don't find either heterosexuality or homosexuality too appealing
) but I
don't support the idea of homosexuality that's all....
Yes it is true that I don't support homosexuality because my stereotypical mind tells me that it's out of the "ordinary" but if we look at it, I believe that everybody supporting a side of a discussion is doing the same thing
Religion........ I really don't because I really have issue with my religion, a lot of complaints that I really don't find right.......
So no..... basically all my statements are based on my belief although it may have been affected by my religion but I don't believe my religion really matters when I'm deciding for myself
Gay marriage....... never really thought far enough to marriage yet
But supporting for gay marriage is also supporting homosexuality isn't it?
Sorry I guess I got that wrong seeing that I'm too lazy to even look up the headline news
Mmmm...... this discussion have a potential to spreading to many topics........ love being one of them........ for I don't believe that just getting married proves "real love" and for me, true love doesn't really need gender so I guess that kinda backs up homosexuality (not to that extent but some.....) which means I'm contradicting myself (to a certain point that is) @_@
10 reasons why Gay marriage is "wrong"
01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
.... sorry if the scarcasm offended anyone. I saw this on a friend's webpage, and it made me think back to this thread.
I am of the belief that people should marry for love, and that love is what defines a marrage, not gender.
I'm not gay, but I've met a lot of people who are, and many of them are hurt by predjudices and laws that tell them who they can and cannot love... at least legally.
A few years ago, I wouldn't have cared one way or the other. I may have even been against homosexuality in general, but then a gay couple brought their puppy into my work (a vet clinic). The little laborador had been poisoned by their neighbor after he had seen the two of them holding hands. He had left a note on the dog's collar that said, "You are a disgusting sin in God's eyes. I hope you suffer the same fate, faggots."
When their little puppy died, they cried the same way I've seen countless others cry when they lose something they love. They held each other the same way a husband and wife would to comfort one another. They shed the same tears, felt the same pain, and were just as helpless as anyone else would be. It was wrong, and that's what finally made me see the truth. That they're no different from us, and they deserve every right that would be granted a heterosexual couple.
Safe to say, I support gay marrage.
I feel like I'm being picked on seeing that I'm the only one against homosexuality
But it's really interesting to read what other people are saying
Nah, I see what you mean, Vatican. In all honesty, I suppose I'm more supportive of male gay guys than lesbians... which really makes no sense. I strongly believe that they should share the same rights we do, but at the same time, my hackles raise when another girl hits on me.
... Then again, the same thing happens when a guy hits on me. I'm just weird, I guess.
Yeah whether gay or women or whatever, they should have the equal rights as others........
But I really didn't like it when this gay dude was hitting on me.......
