Someone I know is getting like 2300 a hour. He has a google pop up blocker, hijack this and ad aware. Pop ups still come up every couple of seconds. How can he fix this?

There are three very effective ways . One: delete the google pop-up blocker, it mybe the one whose behind this(it happened to me once.)Two: go to download.com or some other you know is safe site and get another pop-up blocker. Three: clean the computer of any viruses/ or throw it out.

Switch to firefox and I suspect you won't have that problem again...yay integrated popup denial!

other programs i recommend are, vx32 finder, spybot, the cleaner, and an anti-virus scanner.

use firefox i never see pop ups

He is mentally challenged when it comes to computers. Downloading a new browser is too much for him to handle and probably to hard for me to explain to him. The problems were worse before the google blocker.

Then you'll have to go around to SHOW him what to do, and then tell him how to or install these programs for him and show him how to use them, he'll always be challenged with computers unless you tell him how to use it.

use another browser, mozilla or opera have an integrated pop up blocker and i had never problems with dialers and hijackers since i use them

It was just said that changing to another browser is not considered...(even though I strongly recommend it, too).
But another thing, which OS does he use? If it's winXP, what about getting SP2 with the Pop Up Blocker for IE.
Other than that I'd suggest to do some virus scans and malware scans - cause that many Pop ups is strange...also, I'd be interested when he gets these pop ups. When visiting a specific site or just about every time he gets online...?

I know him online, I cant teach him in person. I'll probably have to send him Norton or some ish.

yes yes!
use firefox or mozilla
they are much better then IE
use em! ^.^

Okay, this obviously isn't so bad, but I get at least a pop-up or two every time I start up IE. Since opting Firefox to default, I've not had a single one.

I'm using Opera and I got a Pop Up Problem.
How can I activate the integrated Pop Up Blocker?

One excellent choice for popup blocking on the Windows side is a software firewall called ZoneAlarm.

There are several versions, the best are ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm Security Suite which both block popups and do very well at it.

ZoneAlarm Security Suite also has a virus scanner as well as other security features that ZoneAlarm Pro (which is mostly just a firewall) doesn't have.

However, I wouldn't recommend either for the PC-inept because it does require configuration and it can be troublesome until you get used to it.

Both can be downloaded in trial form @ download.com

in XP sp2
this problem is finished in excellent touchs.....
:D

Yes, the easiest solution for XP is installing SP2.

Hold on, if he's getting that many popups all the time, it's not gonna be beause of regular popups, odds are that his computer is infected with adware/apyware. If you click Start>Run then type in msconfig ,then click okay, that will bring up a program. Go to the Startup tab and there will be a list of all the programs taht start on the computer (except for services on the NT lines). You should make sure that absolutely nothing on that list is checked except the base things you need, which is basicaly your antivirus, and, well, that's pretty much it. I'm willing to bet that that list is pretty long by this point. If you'll post a list of all the stuff in the list here or message me with it, I can tell you what does and doesn't belong.

if they are caused by sites, use Firefox, or Opera, otherwise update the spy ware removal programs and do a scan... actually do both

Before SP2 I was using Firefox and I have never had a pop up and of course I use Spybot Search and Destroy too

If he gets pop-ups randomly at any site, his IE is probably hijacked. Some of the hijackers/spywares I have encountered can only be removed before they are loaded. I recommend running Spybot and Ad-aware in safe mode. He also might need to remove some of them manually using HijackThis if Spybot and Ad-aware cannot take care of all of them.
