We all know that one day, somehow, our world will come to an abrubt end. Here is a little video explaining 20 different ways that our world will end. It's pretty long so grab some popcorn while you're watching XD

http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m21/Ganjamus/EndofourWorld.gif

After watching, please tell us which one you think will most likely happen.

i didnt watch but i think global warming

Many of the explanations contain gross factual errors. For example, the Bubonic plague, and more specifically the Black Death in the 14th century to which the animation refers, did not kill "hundreds of millions," considering that such a figure would be greater than the entire population of Europe at the time.

One interesting thing to note is that the animation considers "Mass Insanity - mass suicide" one possible way of ending the world. Don't you think that by touting these doom and gloom scenarios you are only contributing to the spread of clinical depression and thus hastening mankind's doom?

Either global warming or a global pandemic.

That's a keen eye you got there, Eternal Paradox. It might exaggerate some of the numbers a bit, and it might also be making people more paranoid and whatnot, but these are all real dangers and we must be aware that we will be responsible for most of these.

Well first of all I would say Humanity's end since the world would probably go on even if we aren't here.
Also in agreement with EternalParadox and Ganjamus, quite a few "world-ending" problems are gross exaggerations but you are right in that we should pay attention to them since they would affect a large amount of the planets populace.

Keen eye? Just attention to details born out of necessity in my jobs.

All the scenarios presented are possible, yes. Are they all likely to the point that we need to become concerned? I don't think so. Climate change, global epidemic, and biotech mishaps are the only three scenarios that I consider to be real threats (and perhaps a terrorist organization obtaining fissile material), but will they completely cause the extinction of the human species? I doubt it. We have recognized these three as potentially real, and work has begun to address them, so the probability of human extinction as a result of them is now quite minuscule. The result of any of these events will certainly cause great damage and threaten many lives, but all 6 billion of us? Many of your results also list EMP waves disrupting electronics. Lack of electricity isn't going to end the human race. Think about how we lived before Edison invented the light bulb.

The other, more bizarre scenarios, well, they all seem hit-or-miss. We have discovered no super-massive stars capable of a gamma ray bursts, let alone become a black hole, in our cosmic vicinity; an alien invasion is HG Wells material; and our sun is not a very violent or big star, so an exceptional flare, directly pointed at earth no less, is really just a remote possibility. As for AI, well, we're still struggling with why Windows can't install our newest printers, so I doubt it'll be smart enough to kill us anytime soon.

At this point, after looking I disregard all of the following from ever happening:
Black Hole
Gamma Burst Ray etc etc space anomalies.

humans have the ability in science now to detect most of these anomalies, if we can't prevent it, I am sure it is still not impossible to build something that defend against it. (that is unless the sun blows up)

A black hole is not entirely invisible, close observation has been shown to actually be able to see a moving black hole, and these things are like mountains, they literally move by inches at max in a year, so if anything, we won't be in direct danger over its random passing. Even if it hit pluto first, it would take at least 30 odd years for it to actually feel the effect on its edges before it comes close to where we are, which I am sure, is then too late.

The plagues have been disregarded as well due to the potential die out, medicine has been shown to be developed for most of such situation and can work miracles at times. Deadly diseases die out too fast, while non deadly ones continue to stay on like the common flu, never will 6 billion going on 7 billion people ever die out from breakouts, even if it from 5 different diseases that kill instantly.

Nuclear Warfare.

NOT if you stop voting for American cowboys for presidents, I assure you. Hillary Clinton just could save America's PR campaign.

Robots.
Fail. It doesn't happen that easily, try asking Asimo, he will tell you it is bullshit.

Aliens.
After so many eons, why now? Oh well, it is not like they are always more superior than us, they could be like War of The Worlds, die out of bacteria... but back to reality, they haven't shown themselves, we haven't discovered, what makes you think they are as violent as us?

Nanotech.
What? we created the borg? nonsense, if the thing can't be contained, I assure you humans will never consider making it, there are plenty of ways to exploit it, but not to exterminate humanity in a manner of days.

Eco failure.
it can happen, everytime you eat a prawn, or a crab, or a squid... oh well, what are we gonna do? I don't know... stop eating? LOL

Enviro failure.
Well, we are up in sh*tcreek now, it is gonna happen, that is until we started doing that 100% recycle thing.

also,. change that quote, not necessarily one day humans will end.
BUT
we could deviate.
as we have always done

First off, I would like to thank you for making THE COOLEST FREAKING THREAD I HAVE EVER SEEN! XD
But in all seriousness, I think the most probable world-ender would have to be man-made. When the hydrogen bomb was first made, many thought that the explosion would result in igniting the atmosphere. Obviously it didn't, but the point is that it was set off regardless. Judging by this, it seems likely that we humans will end up blowing the planet to bits because of our reckless ignorance.
Still, I think that it is equally probable that we will kill ourselves off due to war, though not necessarily nuclear war. "The one thing humans have been consistently good at is killing each other" (I don't know who the author of this quote is, if you do please tell me).
To answer the original question posed, I think that nuclear war is probably what leads to the end of the world as we know it. But, to tell the truth, I hope that the world ends because of something like the hypernova or the spatial collapse, because if I want to go out with a bang. ^_^'

Oh, and I guess I should add that the song "Aenema" by Tool talks of the world ending in tidal waves and floods. Just some more food for thought.

Many would not have the patience too see the whole thing.

Please use flash so that we can click to view the next slide.
I agree that this is an excellent presentation but the slides are too fast or too slow at times.
Maybe some music with go well with this.

I like the new ideas i havent heard before, they sound more believable.

But I think Mankind would most likely kill itself off first before the earth is gone.

Thanxs for sharing with us readers/ viwers. Some of the scenarios are pretty thought provoking. Yes, some of the ways our race (Humans) have been responsible such as releasing CO2, toxic wastes, cutting down oxygen producing trees which absorb CO2 gases. These we can control and reverse the trend. The other scenarios you mentioned, well they are of the galactic propotions. If truly a black hole came near the Earth, we wouldn't have a nice day at the office or a lovely spat with our friend or our significant other.
Of course there is the spectere of the nuclear war, biological warfare or even when "hypercomputers" one day could decide the fate of Humans that we are obsolete and must be "terminated" (right out of the "Terminator" series.
One person I heard on the BBC predicts that Jan. 29, 2029 that Humanity will fall to the "hypercomputers".
Yeah, my popcorn is spiked with some happy dust. You have to wonder about some of these things. Go figure !

I wouldn't rule out any of the mentioned situations. Granted, some of them are farfetched, but even so, there is a chance that it could happen.

However, I am placing my money on the fact that no matter how the world ends, it will be triggered or goaded by human hands. ...and knowing the state of the human race (pardon my misanthropic attitude), the higher powers will try to either mask the approaching cataclysm, and/or shift the blame to a potential scapegoat. And of course, there will be those who will cash in on this one way or another (if the situation is medical-related, the market will be flooded with placebos since treating a disease is more profitable than actually curing it.) As for the common folk, they will either turn into self-survivalists who will do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival, or late repentants who will beg for forgiveness over their past in hopes for a slim chance of getting into heaven (fat chance of that happening.)

Funny thing is, this is also a matter of perspective. Technically, from a particular perspective, the world ends the moment we die. Though the world itself will continue on after we are gone, it doesn't really matter since the mind of the dead person will no longer perceive the world as the living see it. The deceased could see it the same way, or from an entirely new perspective assuming that there is an afterlife.

In any event, I agree on one thing: The world will end no matter what we do. We might speed up the process, or even slow it down, but the world will end eventually.

...I guess I'm beginning to see the point behind the expression 'live each day like it was your last'...

I'd say Global Warming, Nuclear Warfare and Cosmic Megaflare. The Gamma Ray Burst isn't impossible either. But Global Warming is most likely going to happen because of all the polluting and then the Earth is flooded.

wow, interesting.
i am not very good at writing so ill keep it to myself

In all seriousness, I really do believe that the prophecies of 2012 are going to happen. Why? I don't entirely know myself. But, I am convinced that it will happen. December 12: 12+21= 23; 2012: 20+1+2= 23. This number is significant to me because it seems to be wherever something significant happens. The day Hitler declared war, the year the Titanic sank, 9/11/2001, the Oklahoma bombings, and Ceasar's death (he was stabbed 23 times). Now the whole .666 thing is bullcrap, mainly because 2/3= .6666666666666666666666666666 and so on. I may just be paranoid but that's what I believe.

guys i have to say this i realy dont want to but the anticriest was born in november 27 2005, in a small town in iraq he will become a popular person and have many countries on his side because he will not act like the anticriest until the begining of 2030 so look out for people that are popular in 20 years

Who's to say it's the Antichrist?

NEWS UPDATE:
Eta Carinae, a star with a mass 100-150 times greater than that of our own sun, is showings signs that it is going to explode... in the form of a hypernova. It's not close enough to cause the kind of damage explained in the video above, but it might fry most of Earth's satellites. And if by some crazy ass chance, it's gamma rays are pointed directly toward Earth, well to put it lightly, we're all screwed. Other than that, when it does explode, get ready for one hell of a lightshow. We're lucky enough to be far enough from the star to witness it explode without us getting pwned XD Here is the most recent picture of Eta Carinae:

This isnt really the end of the world your talking about, but rather the end of humanity. I'm going to with global warming, because its the closest and I'm not religious. I believe that we'll stop using pollutents too late, and die allong with our collapsing ecosystem that would come with such a disastor. Its actually already worse than you realize, because of global dimming, it has slowed it down. Its because of larger particles that come from our factories that water is evaporating on. It reflects more light away from earth. The truth of global warming was shown after 9/11 when all the planes were grownded, which are the biggest distributers of such cover over the earth. So, by 2100 the earth will have gone up by 10 degrees celsius not including the amount of methane that may melt from the bottom of the ocean with the rising temperature that would make a total of 23 degrees that includes the melted methane.

You don't have to be religious for most of my theories, just open-minded. ETA CARINAE WILL EXPLODE!

To tell you the truth, i'm actually scared now... now that i seen the video. I'm not sure which one, but i think global warming is the winner. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

hey if you made this.. thats pretty cool... i can tell you put a lot of work into it.. if you didn't make it... still man thx for posting it XD sorry i like random things that are unknown to us that can be debated in trivial matters.... which can never be explained till it happens 0.o....... at this point i really don't know which is likely..... climate change screwin us over will happen.. .with high chance... but like in future... so i can't say that some of the other ones will happen before that happens hmmm

i'm scared now..thanks -_-. hehe i like the "It's Just a Dream" one hehehe "follow the white rabbit."

Well, that was enlightening. But now that it seems we may soon find ourselves to be the witnesses of our races' extinction, are you not curious as to whether there have been other events like this in the universe in which sentient beings different from ourselves experienced such a fate or will be born on another planet once our own becomes non existent?

Ummmm, well, some of those events might be why so many planets in our universe are barren and lifeless.
