Or the first DVD atleast. It all happened when I was going to pick up another
DVD to expand my collection. My hand wavered over Azumanga when I saw it's
rating. MA 15+. A few shelves down I saw GTO, rated M. Then I said to myself,
"Those guys on the Australian Censorship Board must be smoking crack
again..." Aparantly it won this rating because of Kimura's pool
episode.
Pool episode: Girls in swimsuits, refers to breast sizes, and Kimura being...
well... himself (perverted in a closet sort of way if you haven't seen
Azumanga). Rated MA 15+
GTO: Sexual references in just about every episode. One episode has Onizuka
spanking school girls tied up with microphone cords without their skirts on as a
form of punishment. Do I need to go on? Rated M.
Anyone find some inconsistancy here? Oh, by the way, when the second volume of
Azumanga Daioh came out, it was rated G. There are some seriously confused
officials out there.
I was wondering if this kind of inconsistancy in anime rating has happened any
where else in the world.
That is just crazy. A pool scene where there just in swim suits and talking
about breast size. Its not like they took their clothes off. I could see gto
being M, but azumanga diaoh...Come on
Wow australia, is more prudeish than the US, I didn't think that was possiable.
In australia, they have an odd selection method, which doesnt seem to stand in
equality really anywhere else in the world, that ive come across.
They are so uptight about any sort of sexual activity here they flatly refuse to
give Games an Adult Rating catagory, meaning that we have alot of games being
banned here, or cut up and edited, ie The latest Lesuire suit larry was banned,
and now they have banned GTA:San Andreas here cause someone worked out how to
patch the game and return the game to its complete form. And i know Anime is no
different, Im surprised the last disk of Excel Saga didnt get an r(18+) rating
here. Apparently ive been told Hentai is illegal here also, I know one place in
sydney though who sells it witout trouble so i dont know if thats true or not.
However scenes of complete violence seem to be ok, games depicting all the guts
gore and blood get a simple M (15+) rating, and you have to wonder just why they
seem to accept one over the other, maybe they want us to all become murders and
not perverts?? I dont think they have a clue, personally, I know a store in
melbourne that sells quite out there real life blood and guts vids, and they
have been in business for ages, without any trouble from the law.
An example , if anyone has seen Texas Chainsaw Massacer 2, that was banned here
but 1 and 3,4 were ok, why, not cause of the blood and guts, and violence, but
because of a brief 3 or maybe 4 second part in the movie where he slides the tip
of his chainsaw along a ladies upper thigh in an upwards motion. I can
understand this may not be seen as something ppl want to see, so why not just
cut the scene out? Overall you would lose naf all time from the movie, it would
happily carry on and ppl wouldnt even notice. But no, run away run away,
Sorry to gripe, reading this thread got me fired up, one thing i dislike about
my country is that it is so unblanaced in its laws attaining to censorship.
Brian Heraldine sure helped to screw us all over because Johhny wanted his votes
on the damn bench to sell out australia grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
an MA rating on Azu is crazy
I'll have to confirm this at my local anime watering hole

hentai isn't banned here... I know many places in Perth that sell it
tho maybe Perth is a lil more lax in that area
Is good to hear, at least they havent taken everything away. yeah
im a pervert :P lol
Yep I just pulled out my box set and its def an MA 15+ Rating stuck on the
cover, maybe they secretly wanted to protect us from Osaka's weird thought
process lmao.
Yeah the Kimura + pool episode has to be the most perverted thing in the show,
but still GTO wins in the perverted category easily I would think. Crazy
Kimura.. crazy Australian Censorship Board.
Australia is just messed up as far as ratings go
I remember when Hannibal came out it was like MA here, but everywhere else in
the world it was rated 18+
so what did they do? changed the rating to R whilst it was still playing in
theatres
Heh. Apparently we have the second raunchiest TV ads in the world (the first
being some European place)
yeah, that was really stupid. i mean the gave end of eva an M rating-M. that's
what they give inuyasha and eva has really harsh violence. i don't even pay
attention to the australian ratings anymore, just use the american ones
I've heard about Australians crazy rating system. And they do ban some forms of
violence, try finding the games 'Soldier of Fortune' and 'Postal 2' in the land
down under. And it's not because of religious extremeists. If you've looked at
the political policy of Australia it's anything but conservative, more like
socialist.
There are inconsistancies in the US as well. DearS manga is rated 13+ but the
DVDs are 17+, aren't the mangas usually more graphic? I know they were for Love
Hina with the manga rated 16+ and the anime 13+

wtf, azumanga hardly deserves a M rating at all.
I soo agree!
The Australian Censorship Board must be smoking crack
I saw cardcaptor sakura rated 18+ in a suncoast once (here in the US). what crap... I think they've changed their ways since.
Gee, Australia's pretty tough to give it the M. Must be really religious!!!

Being 24, I completely ignore all of the ratings systems. Even if it was rated 21+ it wouldn't stop me.
That said, I think this is stupid.
