Id like to hear others opinions about when anime or manga really overdoes it on
the fantasy level. whats ok in ur opinion and whats ridiculous already. What is
the boundary, or should fantasy run loose easily. Any shows where they went too
far, or maybe should have went furter. Any comments, ideas, sugestions and posts
are wellcome.
I personaly found something like DBGT already too much, DB original was neat,
how they were slowly advancing, couple special atacks its ok, DBZ already went
over the limit a bit especially later sagas. GT was too much really plus the
creators really ran out of ideas, the atacks became capable of destroying the
whole universe back in the middle of DBZ. I think thats a good example of going
too far.
I'll agree with you Sethanye....i think that Dragonball went tooooooooooo
far........they already have gone soooo overboard....and i wonder how much will
they keep it up....!
Well there was Twelve Kingdoms. The anime just ended all of a sudden, when so
many questions were left unanswered.. Unless there was some announcement or new
episodes added that I don't know about.
Well, if Dragon Ball Z has a religious theme, like Satan crushing the universe
and taking of God's throne or somethin`, and Gokou is there to keep Satan from
doing it blahblahblah, well, I would accept the "I'll crush the universe
with my Uber-Electro-Magnetic-Kamehame-Wave! >:E". Hell, but DB is
waaaayy tooo masochistic.
I also thought Bleach would end up the same, thankfully, no.
Amaenaideyo! also fits the "over" thing. A guy monk getting pulverized
all the time and he can still work? WTH.
i agree with mely, .... twelve kingdoms.. i loved it so much .. it should have
ended at the 39th episode... but suddenly like a few more episodes to end it off
but they were like.. so not part of the story rofl... so random.... and useless
=/.. very bad ending i'd say
I don't that the DB/DBZ/DBGT were all that far fetched... it's not reality to
start out with, so you know, having crazy attacks, it's ok. Those were great
foundations for drinking games though "I bet he's going to use this
one...", "nah, he's totally going to say that he can destroy the whole
world". It's like the Eurovision contest, you shouldn't take it seriously.
So yeah, I wouldn't say that the fantasy went overboard, or maybe it's just
because I grew up with them.
fantasy should have no limits thats my opinion. I blame DBGT on poor ideas not
really on being too farfetched. Dont forget crossing the line is why we watch
anime or read manga in the first place.
If it's limited it takes away the point of it being "fantasy". I agree
some things get cheesy, but in the case of the Dragonball shows they make it
obvious from the beginning that it's going to be totally out there. Fantasy is
supposed to give you the freedom to go to the levels of being
"far-fetched", or not if you don't want to. Saying it shouldn't be
allowed to go that far is more ridiculous than some of the shows that do get
weird. If you don't like that kind of thing you don't have to watch it, but
saying fantasy should be "limited" is silly as like I said, the point
of fantasy is to go beyond what's real and possible and into the unbelievable.

beeing fantasy of a fantasy its already messed up.
I'm not entirely sure how to respond to that because I have to admit I'm not
entirely sure what you were trying to say o_o I guess this might be repeating
myself, but this time I've consulted dictionary.com for help with my
explanation:
Quote by Dictionary.com Fantasy
1. imagination unrestricted by reality;
That's really all there is to it. I'm not saying you have to like it (I'd be
lying if I said I did), but people's ideas of what is good and bad fantasy, what
is cheesy and what isn't are very different and restraining that takes away the
entire point of it being a "fantasy". It's when people begin doing
these things outside the fantasy genre that it really begins to get silly, as it
is over-stepping the bounds, where fantasy has no boundaries. Given that, it
can't mess up unless the creator didn't actually intend for it to be that way.
what im really saying t hat fantasy is ok, i dont mind all those super atacks,
all those kamehames and whatever other anime shows have it, i like it. its just
that they run out of ideas sometimes and start making fantasy just for the sake
of making more fantasy. whats really the difference from lets say SSJ3 and SSJ5
pretty much non, its more like an rpg game then already, where the characters
advance levels, do a tad more damage and defeat a tad stronger enemies, it makes
the show loose its sense cos it kinda can be turned into a neverending story. im
not talking just about dbz, there are plenty of shows like that
I think fantasy can be as ostentatious as people want it to be - as long as it's
logical. What I mean is, even in alternate universes and fantasy worlds there
are always rules about those world which govern them. I've seen really good
fantasy series' where a lot of very weird things happen but which are
explainable because the rules in the fantasy world make sense, whereas in some
anime the plot is not coherent enough or thoight through enough for the same
things to make any sense.
good one crsg, very well phrased, thats what i really meant by fantasy of
fantasy, when the rules arent done well enoughit makes the fantasy look
ridiculous
Personally, as a person who strongly advocates anything extraordinary and
dislikes anything mundane, I dont think there is no limit to fantasy unless it
doesn't make any sense to the people who watch it
The Dragonball series was completely understandable so I think it wasn't really
over the line
Personally i didn't get the story of Evangelion but still I think the creator
used too much imagination
There is no such thing as "too far" in manga/anime. Realms that allow
imagination to reign supreme.
This also applies to video games, movies, books... much anything except real
life. I'm open-minded
like that~

I dont now, maybe if it wasnt too much the anime wouldnt be so interesting
