I refer to the automated message from botchii advising of the deletion of
"Its Playtime" in the Kaleido Star gallery.
I noted the additional comment from a moderator who said the image was 5
undersized scans.
I would like to dispute that claim for the following reasons:
1. The picture submitted was one picture scanned from the art book - no
tweaking, compilation, or other alteration to the scan was made prior to
submitting to MT;
2. The original image is presented as a photo-board with smaller pictures of
each character. That's it; and
3. I have seen numerous examples (wallpapers generally) where a similar
photo-board or notice-board presentation was adopted. These have been, of
course, accepted; so I fail to see how this scan can reasonably be considered
unacceptable when similar presentations of artwork occupies other
galleries.
I refer to the Minitokyo Policy for scans, which states:
1. Scans must have a minimum of one million (1,000,000) pixels. You may not
enlarge scans to meet this requirement.
2. Scans may be monochrome or in full color. You must submit monochrome scans in
the monochrome section to distinguish them from other scans.
3. You may not submit scans which contain excessive artifacts, folds, noise, or
which are blurred, over or under-saturated, too dark or too bright, or a
screenshot. When appropriate, you may use image editing software to clean up
scans and submit higher quality versions.
4. You must search in the Scans gallery for existing copies of your scan. You
may not submit duplicate copies of the same scan unless your scan is of
significantly higher quality. The Minitokyo staff reserve the right to determine
whether new submissions are of significantly higher quality.
5. You must provide proper credit to the sources from which you obtained your
scans. The term "not my scan" or any of its variants may only be used
if you do not have and cannot obtain with reasonable effort full credit for the
scan. If the scan is from a third party image site, you must provide the URL
link to the original image in the gallery description. By submitting third-party
scans to Minitokyo, you understand that scans from certain image sites are not
permitted for submission and that it is your responsibility to check the FAQ
section for the most updated list of non-permissible sites.
In all instances the submitted scan complied with the policy, in my opinion of course.
Accordingly, I ask that the deleted scan is reinstated into the gallery.
The common misconception is that the Scans gallery is there for people to browse
pretty pictures at their leisure. However, the Scans gallery is a giant resource
for people who want to make wallpapers. This is why there is a minimum size
requirement which will not allow the submission of any scan under 1,000,000
pixels in size.
Although the over-all image is of a cork notice board, the focus of the image is
the 5 photographs that were pinned up, each with a character's portrait. Those
individual portraits were all under the minumum 1,000,000 pixels
required.
So while the over-all image of the scan was large enough, there was nothing
there that could be classed as a resource. The small squared portraits were all
too small.
You are welcome to rescan the image at a larger resolution & resubmit it.
But in it's current state the scan will not be returned to the gallery.
Thanks Saikusa. I don't entirely agree with the opinion, but I'll respect and
accept it (you're the moderator, of course). It may be advisable to make this
particular position clear in the scans policy to avoid other users'
embarrassment (or annoyance). Along with that, the "objective" of the
scans gallery providing resources for people making wallpapers. The reasoning is
satisfactory, please feel free to close this thread.
