if you haven't noticed already, the original power rangers were pretty racist
when assigning colors to the rangers. they got the white dudes playing the red
and blue power rangers because they happen to be more "american" than
other races. the got a black dude to play the black ranger. an asian girl for
yellow and a white valley girl to play pink. even more, they got an irish dude
to play the green ranger. i personally think it's pretty funny but what do you
guys think?
On a personal level, I'm getting SICK of sequel after sequel of power ranger
shows where the concept NEVER CHANGES!
Besides that, I haven't thought about it very much.
The black ranger part kinda makes sense.
Didn't know Jason Frank [green ranger] was Irish.
Does yellow mean something racial to asians, I'm kinda confused on that part.
Red and Blue really don't mean much to me, unless they're combined to make
purple that is.
Anyway, maybe someone else will give you a better view on this matter.
Me, I had enough of power rangers after the ZEO season ended.
oh...my english teacher did mention something about this being racist...but he
didn't go much into detail but he explained that mickey mouse is racist (the
older black and white version) and many of the cartoons like cinderlla etc have
something racist in them
This reminds me of that redubbing that My Way Entertainment did. When they gave
the Power Rangers their weapons, they had the black guy say "why you gotta
give the black mother f***er a gun?" I just look at it this way, people
read too much into things. I think at the time the original Power Rangers was
made, there wasn't so much racial animosity nationwide yet. Now if you say
anything that can be construed as racist, all hell breaks loose.
I didn't really realise that until you mentioned it (duh Asian = yellow)... just
never clicked in my mind.
Well regardless of the races though, I must admit the colours made me remember
them pretty well even though the last time I watched it was in my early teens...
and that was a loooong time ago especially with a declining memory.
I guess best option to watch Japanese Power Rangers instead...?

Ha I noticed that too, and I always wondered if they actually did do that on
purpose or if it was a complete coincidence.
The Yellow Power Ranger rocked by the way. Sabertooth Tiger Awesome.
Let's not forget the pink power ranger, Kimberly. If you were a kid when this
show was on, Kimberly was your crush and you know it. You know shes like a
singer now? There should be a VH1 special for where are they now. Wasn't the red
ranger Jose Canseco? Ha.

Like WTF is that all about!? There ain't no such thing as a Japanese Power
Rangers! Sentai is the original.
Strike 1, misa. Strike 1.
Power Ranger is not just racist its so damn boring now. Like back in MMPR,
they'd save the blasts for last but in like Operation Overdrive, there's blast
after blast especially in the Once a Ranger episode.
But hey you gotta give props for SPD for having the first black dude for a Red
Ranger and a dog as a commander. Ninja Storm's Red Ranger ain't a black guy,
he's something else.
And Carter Grayson's a pussy. Just wanna say that.

They're both Caucasians man...
Anyways, never thought of it til I saw this thread. Oh well... I'm on the Super
Sentai groove anyway so dun really care much.
hahaha. i stopped liking power rangers after 3rd grade (somewhere around 14-15
years ago) the thought just popped in my head when i was talking about shows i
used to watch as a kid

Of course they are.
The battles with the suits were creepy, to guys in costumes going after each other....
I'm suddenly feeling a little nausious.
Curse you power rangers.
CURSE YOU and your crappy villains and repetitiveness too.
