There are a few things in life I never thought I'd have a chance to say.
"Alright, I won the lottery!" "Did you see that midget kick the
crap out of Mike Tyson?" "Hey guys, meet my girlfriend." But
apparently Midway thought they would take one of those away from me... "did
you see they are making a Mortal Kombat game where the fight DC
characters?" Well it's happening. Linkage: Mortal
Kombat vs DC Comics
Remember back in the 2-D days how awesome Mortal Kombat was? Everybody was
freaking out about the violence and how fun it was being that one kid in school
with a Super Nintendo/Genesis and parents awesome enough to let you play the
game? Does Forward, Down, Forward High Punch ring a bell? Well Mortal Kombat has
since gone down the crapper since making the jump to 3-D... but what still made
it cool was fatalities... which are now gone. The people at DC aren't to keen on
the idea of Superman getting his heart ripped out or Batman being maimed by
blades, so fatalities are gone.
All this being said... whose excited? Does the thought of using Batman to go toe
to toe with Sub-Zero make you all tingly inside? Or, like me, would you rather
play Sudoku with a pen that doesn't work?
Back in the day, I would have been 'ewwwwww'. ...but since the MK games have
been improving, I say that there is a bit of hope. However there are two issues
that must be answered before giving a thumbs up:
A) Fatalities are bye-bye
B) When was the last time they made a halfway decent DC comics game?
Depending on the answer, I might not rush to this one so willingly.
saw this thing on gs the week before...not really a fan of dc... . i'm not very
keen on the no fatalities idea. i can't even begin to think why midway would
think it was a good idea. all that was going through my mind at the moment was
"what did i ever do to deserve this!?"

Well, I guess it goes to show what the real pull of Mortal Kombat is. Much as I
hate to admit it (yeah, I was a fan of MK 1 to 3 as well), the visceral and the
gore was its main draw. Anyone remember when Street Fighter 2 was MK's main
opponent?
Ok, so the digitized characters were kinda neat too.
But anyway, I've long since ceased caring about the MK game series to give a
damn about what they're doing with it. Also, the lack of fatalities doesn't
necessarily mean anything. No hearts got ripped out of chests in the first MK
movie, and yet that movie was pretty cool all the same.
On fatalities; I seem to remember watching a videofile with all fatalities from
most, if not all, Mortal Kombat games. It lasted for seven minutes. Seven
minutes of screaming and sounds of rendered flesh. Yikes!
