I really want to know your opinion about this: for you, what´s the
most important thing about being an anime fan (there´s still a
problem about using the word OTAKU?). If is just watch as many anime as you can,
collect all info about the series (just to prove that you are a real otaku),
show your favorite series to your friends, make a fansub groupor similar...

Hm.... if so, then that's a thinker. If you should ask this then perhaps ask
questions regarding philosophy of mankind. Not to sidetrack to that, I'll give
my reason.
The reason of being an anime fan is to show that you love another part of
entertainment created by artists. Anime is something that live movies cannot
make. Anime can bring new heights of expression, emotion, life, and story to us.
The possibilities of anime are vast and live movies sometimes won't be able to
cope with that.
As for the definition of 'otaku', it can mean that you're a big anime fan
overall. One who watched a lot of anime (like over 100 anime series), and
collects a lot of anime merchandise and most importantly visit many anime
conventions locally and throughout the world.
Another way to define an 'otaku' is just someone who is obsessively in love with
anime.
I, myself don't class myself as an otaku of anime "generally", but I
do see myself as an anime fan and more importantly an otaku of Onegai Teacher,
because I'm truly in love with it that I've collected many Onegai Teacher
merchandise, made my own dedicated Onegai Teacher fansite, and watched the anime
many times too.
im not really an anime fan, i considered myself as an manga fan =D i read every
manga i found, i collect them all, and i really love it till death!!

I consider myself an anime-geek, though it hasn't risen to the level of learning
the language and shouting Japanese everywhere. Yet. It's mostly the art that
draws me in. And showing your favorite series to your friends is a must. :P We
always have to make them like it to be cool.
well, the word Otaku in it's natural sense means "to be at home"
basically it means "to have no life and dedicate it to something in an
almost morbose way"
although in the western world we've given it a nice connotation (that and we
consider having hobbies and spending huge amounts of cash in them a good thing
:P)
personally i like anime and all the stuff that comes with (conventions, cosplay,
voice actors/actresses, soundtracks, etc), why? because it's become it's own
subculture, a subculture some people might not want to get into because of their
own beliefs

you don't need actual "reasons" to be an anime fan. Really all that's
important is that you're an anime fan because you love anime. You don't need to
collect a certain amount of anime related items to prove your level of devotion.
All that matters is that you're happy with the anime of which you love so
much.
I consider myself as a huge major anime fan ( i also like the mangas), i may not
have watched as many series or have as much merchandise as others but i have no
doubt that anime is a major part of my life and i am very comfortable with
myself to proudly say im an anime fan.

im a fan because alot of american cartoons suck and anime does and will always kick american shows out of the way.

My reasons for liking anime are the quality of what's out there, the variety of what's out there, and the art style.
