When you have completed a series in one format (manga or anime), do you often
have the urge to follow it again in the other?
If both a manga version and anime version is within reach for a particular
series, I always try to start with the anime and switch to the manga for a
series I really enjoyed. Moon Phase is a
recent example in which after falling in love with the anime series, decided to
collect the Tokyopop manga. And I got so hooked with the four paneled Azumanga Daioh manga that I immediately
purchased the DVDs once they were released.
It's fun to notice the differences between the two formats after switching, but
usually I don't do this kind of format switch very often since I mostly stick to
following a series as an anime.
I do that sometimes, not often, but its fun when you do. There are always little
differences between the manga and anime, and things that got left out in both
the animes and the mangas. Its interesting to see the changes between the two.
I always stick with anime and rarely read manga. I know it's strange, that's
because it's very hard to find complete collection of manga here. They usually
lack a volume or more when you find them in the store. To know the difference I
usually read reviews that other folk leave on the net.
I prefer the Anime since I don't have to stare at a B/W picture in a Manga and
try to imagine the action scene. Instead, good Anime has really interesting
battles that are played out, which you just can't replicate in a manga. True,
individual pages in a manga can be more detailed, but it's still B/W! Where's
the color...!?
