I created this wallpaper a few weeks back..

The anime it features is : Card Captor Sakura..
Flowers found at: Deviantart.
I forgot where I found the image..
Anyways please tell me what you guys think and how I can improve my wallpaper making skills..xD

HERE IS THE IMAGE

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU GUYS THINK AND WHAT I NEED TO IMPROVE ON

I think this wall is pretty cute ;)
but, also you need to do something with the background..it's somewhat too plain...maybe some texture would do good...dunno...

The background is too simple and there are also extraction problems.
I really like the font you used <3
About the background, no matter how I look at it, the best is a flower field...
It's complicated to create, I know... but I have some tips:

1. Use flower brushes and paint them over, painting might sound complicated, but here's a wallpaper in which a similar technique is used. flower field

2. Make a few flowers stand out... not roses, plain flowers.

3. For the back you don't need any fancy stuff, if you want, put some mountains/hills, if not a simple sky background is perfect. Be careful when you make the sky, to use a gradient with the light part at the horizon.

I hope you understand, if you need help feel free to ask me :D
Also, how can you comment/post if you're restricted...? it's really odd >_<

alright thank you for the tips..
I'll try it over..
I was thinking about a cherry blossom tree and some leaves falling down on them..and then the flower fields.. ^^
do you think it's good enough?

about the restriction thing..
since I can't submit anything..I'm trying to improve my walling skills in the mean time.. ^^

Hi noel-hime! You're back! And working at walling already! How hardworking..

Well, true, the wall is a tad too simple.. but like Sakura-dust has said, you can change the background! Your idea and hers sound great enough so for the moment, I will keep quiet about that..

Extraction... here's a tutorial using the pen tool if you want to do it yourself.. I think the pen tool is best for this because you can change the shape at leisure whereas with a lasso tool, one wrong movement and the whole thing could be ruined!

http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/l/blrbps_4abfly.htm

I have a proposal though.. wanna do a combo? I'm not trying to boast or anything.. but I think I'm quite good with extraction now. So if you want, you can pass the scan to me and I'll extract it for you! ^.^ We can discuss about the background and divide the work up too, if you want.. *whisper*To tell you the truth, I'm just kinda raring for some art project on Minitokyo..just that I can't meet my own expectations..how pathetic of me..*whisper ends*

So what do you think, noel-hime? :) Drop by my page and leave a message or comment to let me know, kay! See ya!

HOW ABOUT THIS?

I just drew the mountains since I can't find a good enough image to place in the background ^^

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k240/aiiroprincessnoel/sakura.jpg

what you guys think?
tell me what you really feel..I should improve on..

Er... sorry, noel-hime, but a wall like that will never get accepted in Minitokyo... gomen.. Okay, let's see what we can do!

Firstly, let me ask; do you have Photoshop? I am assuming you do, since it looks like you are using brushes for the sakura. Well, you know, when you are painting, you can change the settings for opacity and flow, as well as use the smudge tool(with low strength). It helps a lot to refer to some tutorials too! Here, go to paint~o~rama! http://paint-o-rama.minitokyo.net/ There is a list of tutorials there.

My personal favourites are those by sixio, namely
-A better understanding of Adobe's powerful tools by Sixio

-Painting clouds in Photoshop by Sixio

NEW Painting walkthrough by gabychan

-How to CG with a sketchy styled line art

-La Boreal Walkthrough by alterlier

And there are lots lots more of tutorials! As well as links to other programs to use.

I also just have to know; was the picture of Sakura and Shaoran really done by you? Because you know ownership is a really touchy subject..it would probably be better if we know where you got it from.. as well as clear up the issue.. because, it looks like at least two people think you vectored it yourself.. >.< Don't worry, we all make mistakes.. just have to learn. Better late than never. On the other hand, you had better fix some of the pictures I see in your deviantart are actually from other people. This ( Tu est tres Jolie: part II[v] by YoruAngel866 ) is a vector done by YoruAngel866 but it is in your gallery too.. But if you did do it yourself.. sorry!

I hope I don't sound too bossy.. -_- I am just concerned.. don't want noel-hime to get into trouble.. T.T please pay attention to what I have said.

When I have time, I'll try and make a little tut to show what could be done for the flowers..

See you! And take a look at the tuts! They help!

I see..well I don't have photoshop..I am using Paint.net which is basically like Photoshop..I think..

I'll try to see the tutorials..and the picture of Syaoran and Sakura..nope I did not make them..I found them somewhere..I just don't remember where..but I think I found it at deviantart..

And the YoruAngel thing..well I was first to do it..and mine isn't really a vector it is actually just cleaning up the background and putting just normal fonts behind her..if you look closely in her left hand side of her skirt..you can still see some text that spelled Lelouch's name..just pointing it out..

don't worry..I understand..but just look closely in the vector that I did..it isn't YoruAngel's since mine isn't really a vector there is still some text left in her left hand side of the skirt..

Okay, I've looked up Paint.net. Well, it is not as easy to paint with Paint.net , for sure.. but there are tutorials that can help! Just look here ( http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewforum.php?f=15 ) , for a few tips.
There is a disadvantage since Paint.net doesn't have the blur/dodge/smudge tools.. but this tutorial helps a bit! http://paintdotnet.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=22096 .
Still no smudging though... but if you are smart with setting opacity and flow, as well as sorting out layers, I think you can still do something great! And I think you have to leave extraction all to me.. lasso tool is making the lines jagged..

Of course, it would be nice to have photoshop.. but you still can get by with Paint.net!

I have taken a closer look.. all right, I can see that you lassoed C.C from the scan then changed the background. Not what I might do but still a nice job, considering Paint.net. ^.^ Just... describe the process a bit more, and people won't come complaining.. I mean, you did write there on the picture that it is your vector, after all.

Then again, I suppose deviantart isn't as avid about copyright as Minitokyo and Animepaper (and me :P ) are..

Well, now I get your situation! I'll try and help out with the painting then. Have to practice a bit though... I did Midsummer Night Dream by aozoraskies a long time ago, but now, my painting isn't even up to that standard now.. >.< :\

With tuts and practice, I'm sure you'll get better!

yup..If I know better I think Paint.net is harder to understand than Photoshop I think..I looked up the tutorials and I'm still working on the wallpaper. I'll show them to you when I'm a little bit done ^^

oh and thx for the tutorial..it also help me to leanr how to create moving avatrs using paint.net ^^

My basic tip to add to both versions of your wallpaper is to pay attention to the colors in the base image-- in this case, warm green and pink with warm earth tones-- and try to make the background coordinate with those colors. Ice blue doesn't correspond to anything in the base image, which is why the kids have a "pasted-on" feel.

Also, as mentioned above, you have problems with extraction. Specifically, a chunk of Sakura's right arm and a flower from her necklace are missing, and there are small chunks of white in corners and crevices of the image's outline.

And for some reason, it worries me that you don't know that the base image you're using is NOT from CardCaptor Sakura, but Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle.

Ah finally I'm back! Sorry for making you wait sooo long, noel! Exams came up.. Anyway, I finished the extraction and painting tonight so I'll let you see what it looks like now! Extraction was a pain.. my eyes are watering from having to keep zooming in and staring at all the pixels.. >.< Painting was fun though. ^_^

I have a lil question though... can your Paint.net take Photoshop Psd files? Because if it doesn't... guess I'll have to give you the gif then..

Pass me your email address or something and I'll send it!

Here it is!

And corinn has a point. So I'm showing you how it looks with green and blue. Of course, it doesn't have to look so abstract.. And the background is an example of how nice the brush in Photoshop is to use. You can set shape dynamics, and smudge.. and it gives a nice ripple look. You should try and get a Photoshop, noel!

Oh yeah, it is Tsubasa, forgot to mention that.. It's Sakura and Shaoran as kids.. Noel, sorry to bother you but do you have any leads as to where you really got the image from? We might need to give credit..

Anyway, see you! This thread has become for not just noel but for me too, so do comment... PLEASE

Oh and I need to ask, are the highlights and shadows I added on looking okay? I hope you don't mind, noel, that I've changed the lighting quite a bit.. X-O

For the others.. this was the original picture. Compare? The lines were a bit jaggy and I was lazy to vector anymore (I extract with the pen tool) so I ended up smudging, burning, and painting it..

Appreciate your comments!
