hmmm again, i don't know if there is already a post on this.. but heck....
so who has seen the movie, read the book and read the manga? i have!! except for the book =_=;;; soo hard to get hold on the freaking BOOK!! anyways, BR is one of my FAVORITE all time movies!! i just think it's the best!! but then when the 2nd one came out.. it sorta ruin the whole thing.... even so, i still cried =_= man im a cry baby...

so yeah... post down what you guys think about the movie, manga or book ^^ ooh and kiriyama, kawada, mitsuko, taht chiaki girl (omg i forgot her name o.O) and mimura are my favs ^^ especially kiriyama!! (ando-sama!!! *drools*) ^^v

One is good, two is pretty stupid. Beat Takeshi is always great.

The second movie has not the same director for what i read. The director of the first movie died or something....Maybe that's why the second movie sucked..
I didn't quite like the movies. They were ok, but that's it....But i didn't like The Ring either....

the 2nd movie was directed by his son who had no film directing experience whatsoever. and the first is a name everyone should know, Kinji Fukusaku who is famous for his "Yakuza Papers" movies. I myself actually liked the 2nd one for what it is, it had a message that i totally agreed with though was not shown in the best way if you know what i mean and the first movie i liked until i read the book. the book is 100 times better.

I have the movie on my PC and I downloaded it 'cause this was the movie in which Quentin Tarantino discovered Chiaki Kuriyama duirng his planning of Kill Bill.

I enjoyed the first movie, and have yet to see the second. Some of the reviews I've seen, or friends I've talked to about this say that the second movie is ok, but not as great as the first. Seems more like an action/war movie than what the first movie was. Currently reading the manga..............seems to be really good in my opinion so far. :)

I like [cheap gore flicks :)] B.R. 1 - It reminds me "Worms" game [5 killed, left 30 :)].
i didn't saw B.R. 2, so I dunno what 2 say about this...

first movie was good, that's for sure... at first I thought the second was good aswell... I changed that opinion quite quickly...

mmm The movie was really good, but I need to see the rest of it. Weee for Battle Royale

yeah the director of the first movie Kinji Fukusaku died on January 12 ^^;; same day as my best friend's birthday... also who is one of his greatest fans u_u
the second one was directed by his son ^^;; i dnt know about the directing experience... because he did drect BR1 with his father... u_u so yeah
the manga is soooo ecchi and gore!!! i love it!! (except for ecchi bits) =P

no he didnt, Kinji Kukusaku directed that by himself, Kenta the son, adpated the novel to a screenplay

The movie isn't really anything special. The book is a lot better (I'm not quite finished with it, but I'm nearing the end). The book lets you get more inside the minds of a lot of the characters and see things from their perspective, something that gets a little lost in the movie. Also, the teacher doesn't actually know the class in the book, unlike the movie.

Shogo and Kazuo aren't last minute "transfer students" that first show up on the island in the novel. Shogo transferred in earlier that year, and Kazuo (AKA psycho machine gun dude) was always in the class.

BR was a great movie, but the second one was really crap....the story wasnt really interesting and there wasnt as much carnage and killing like in the first one, sad they made such a crappy sequel from a great movie

Agree, the first Battle Royale was a great movie, but i don't like the second one.
The manga is not bad either :)

haha yeah i agree... i mean like half of the kids DIED before they reach the freaking island! o.O i mean wtf is that about!! hahaha!!! but it's seriously soo gouring!! >< the blood.. but no matter what, BR1 is the best one ^^

i'm getting my BR novel soon!! yaaaay~!!! i read my friends one and havnt finsihed it yet... cuz her sister started reading it o.O garh =_=

Ugh. Am I going to be the only guy here (or person it seems) that didn't like the movie? Personally, I saw it as a senseless gore fest, that while entertaining, a good miovie it doesn not make. Sure Kill Bill was awesome and all, but it had a very good story behind it. Battle Royale was just a gore fest with political satyr undertones. I have only skimmed the Manga a little, and I came to the same conclusion there, except their's more T&A to further degrade the material.

VaporGecko, i do agree with you in the fact that the movie really is overhyped. its just one of those big name asian movies everyone knows (ex. My Sassy Girl) but i think its low to consider it a senseless gorefest. There was a deeper meaning which it seems you got but Kinji Fukusaku just didnt show it well. If you read the novel it will definitely change your opinion im sure. Also, Kinji Fukusaku is notorious for his violence in films as is Tarantino with Kill Bill. If you see his cult trilogy "The Yakuza Papers" it is quite violent like this but is considered to be a classic in terms of cinema and is refered to as the Japanese "Godfather". Anyways the movie truely isnt as good as people make it out to be but what matters is that i thought it was enjoyable and well made for what it was, just like with a movie like Kill Bill. And as you stated, a movie doesnt neccessarily need to be deep to be a good movie, and i think Battle Royale had a damn good story. Its basically Lord Of The Flies to the extreme

mimura and kiryama!!!!! hey are the best i love futari and kyriyama my favourite with diference he is so cool and sweet

i havent watched the second movie, but the first one was so awesome! mitsuko! ^_^ i havent read the book yet.... only cuz i'm bankrupt and cant afford it XD haha but i really enjoyed the movie! it was so good ^_^ i dunno y, maybe i was feeling a bit bloodthirsty then... *cackle* hahaha XD

I've seen the movies, they're real crazy, but good. I sort of like the idea of pitting high school students against each other like that it makes a crazy story but if it were to happen in real life that would suck. A story of friendship and betrayal.

Seen the movies, read the book.
Loved both (although BR2 was meh, that one guy's sister who sniped ppl was the main reason i watched after awhile).
School girls + weapons + killing + Mitsuko + FF7 seph ripoff (movie only) + Takeshi (movie only) = pure goodness

and, the fact that ALL the guys in the room at the moment Gogo stabbed that one guy (with the ice pick was it?) screamed, just can answer pretty much everything. (come on, you know the scene)

I think BR is either a masterpiece or just a regular bloodfest depending on how you look at it. IMO there's deeper meaning behind the movie (which I still haven't figured out completly) but if you take it as "true", then it's nothing more than a movie with loads of bullets and corpses.

i agree with all you guys... especially Ninja, the bit where ninja said that it's about firendship and betrayal... i mean yeah it's an all gore movie... but if you look at the meanign of it... if you watch the movie uncut like, i mean the director's cut one... you get to see all those special scenes, like when nanahara and mimura were playing basket ball and how mitsuko was raped when she was a little girl and etc... BR really does make you think about friendship... it's really a touching movie.. i love it not because of it's goreness but because of what it is trying to say... life is a game... oh and yeah the guy who wrote the novel, he was inspired by Lord of the Flies... i still need to get my hand on that book u_u

the 2nd movie i found the most sadest was that sniper girl meeting her brother again... and kitano and her daughter... u_u really sad... but just a crap movie... but hey... it's all good ^^

i still don't understand why people wouldn't quite like BR apart from it's bloodness.... anywyas, thanks for all your comments ^^ kiriyama is the best!! hehehee even though he is a bit fugde... u_u

Both movies seemed the same too me, and I don't really understand why the majority of you think that BR2 is such a bad movie, its basically like the first movie(except without background info, but there was little enough of that in the first movie anyways[and yes I've seen teh directors cut]). I still do want to get a copy of the book, is it japanese or translated into english?
