What do you think is the so called "darkest" anime. I think that evangelion takes that seat as it really makes you think about stuff...like...um....what is that....oh yeah!!! LIFE....negative aspects of it anyway. Also, it has a freaky ending and dwells deep into religion...which in itself is a very mysterious subject. What do you think?

The darkest series I have ever come across is X. It is downright depressing. It's the kind of series where you know that the characters are not gonna come out happily ever after at the end. They have a lot of betrayal and dark depressing moods and things like that.

urosukidoji series, actually the animation is excellent for the period of time ( where talking way old but looks like it was done in early 90's )

however as it started off the whole "hentai" thing and contained far to much immoral content
it gains the rank of most vulgar anime for me

i agree with you the whole series actually makes you think a lot about the negative aspects of life.

Very old series - Secret of Blue Water, it had a lot of depth and inner meaning...

I vote for X too, most depressing thing ive watched. Then Berserk, or at least the last 4 eps or so.

I have actually seen X and for me, Evangelion seemed to have a greater affect...and no I am not a kid...maybe i was when i watched it though...hmmm...what is a kid by the way?

Either X or Elfen Lied. I don't really watch those kind of shows that often, so I don't really know.

Dark anime I have watched so far (and I can think of at the moment) are Argentosoma and Elfen Lied.

Lain is up there. I think its really dark for what you see on TV. I don't buy or download anime much so I'm ot overly exposed to the ones I see listed here.

So yeah...um...i thought of another dark anime...dbz...blonde hair...greenish blue eyes...can anyone say hitler. Somebody told me once and I was like...don't be stupid...and then I thought about and was still like....nahhhhhh. What do you think?

I'm thinking Elfen Lied, Boogiepop Phantom, Lain would go there too.. Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Hellsing.. and nothing else seems to come to mind right now..

hmm i think Chrno Crusade is a pretty dark type anime too. through out the whole series, only 15minutes of it takes place in the day light.

hmm "darkest" well im generally one to watch the most hardcore stuff as long as it has a decent story. i love the stuff - Madhouse is my fav studio, Legend of the Overfiend ruled. hmm maybe Miike will direct an anime, soon.

very few anime or manga for that matter touch this cold heart i call my own. EVA, Lain, Sanctuary(manga)etc i actually cried. :im so ashamed to admit:

but nothing can touch Grave of the Fireflies. woah. this anime just blew me away. whereas 99% of anime out there requires suspension of disbelief. GOF dealth with events that did happen and concerned the effects of war on 2 innnocent children. i dare any1 to watch this film and not be "moved".

for me "darkest" means also most the most moving.
