I never often post anything in the Forum, but I have been noticing an
increase
of the amount of LEECHERS and OILPUMPS there are in MT.
Now MT is about the largest directory with scans ont the internet,
but also a communtiy of WALLERS and ARTISTS.
Recently the following has been occuring each time.
I spend my time on a wall, or artwork, I put it in my dir. The artwork is
then displayed in the main page, under RECENT SUBMISSIONS.
But then quickly after youve submitted. NOONE gets the chance to
view the work you have done, because 1000 of people are uploading
CRAP scans or CRAP Artwork/wallpapers. So your artwork quickly
within the hour is situated at page 20 on the bottom of the list where NOONE is
looking,
because they LEECHED the hell out of it already.
The rules and guidlines of MT state that you at least have to upload something
of a decent or good quality. Not to mention ecchi and porn was outright
banned
last year before the new server came in. It seems to be posted still every day.
I now find myself with a directory of unreviewd work, plus
all my work is DOWNLOADED at an incredible rate because of the amount of
leechers
who just pop by and clixxor it because they wanna have EVERYTHING on teh
intarnet.
Isn't it wise to have an upload ro download cap for each user or level of
user?
maybee you are already thinking of it?
So at least well have some TIME to look at the stuff in MT.
Not to mention it will greatly fix the ALREADY inherited speed problem.
I hope you know what i am talking about an d
if anyone feels the same way.
I think the upload restriktions for under 10 and under 20 members is oke but
members over 20 can upload as much as they wand maybe thats too much there are
people who spam scans.
leeching isn't possible for people who arn't members or below 10 members they
can't download.
ai just a little overreacting I'v found there are aboud 10 new pages (highest
number of thumbs per page) submitted everyday. and I figure lots of people brows
those pages when they log on.
youre just frustrated that your wall havent been seen, we cant hit at all time,
and maybe you first shot missed, get another done, if people like it, the might
take a look at your old. And yeah there is crap in here, but not as much as your
saying
Yea, I can agree to you on that, there should be a cap on both upload and
download. It would definately help on bandwidth for the rest of us who don't
have the luxury of viewing (besides those who are leeching) all the work that
people posted.
Main reason for not viewing MT on a daily basis. I used to be able to view MT,
and keep up with the newest uploads, but not any more. Too much spam loads or
dups being posted. That, and a lot of noobs who join don't bother reading the
upload/download procedures.

Ummm no. I think your missing my point.
I don't give a rats ass, if noone comments on my work. Thats entirely up to the
user.
The point is that no one gets a chance to post anything IF they want to comment.
Its just something ive been noticing recently.
Look its basic psychology dude. How many people do you think plow thru the
entire SITE
or even comment on work?
Only about 30%. The most common users, the other 70% don't want the stress
and
hassle of plowing thru MT just to find out whats new. They look at the 1st page,
then click
maybee about 3 or 4 pages into the selected category and then focus on something
else
like checking their mail or getting a drink from the fridge or going to other
sites.
Now, imagine that 70% filled with leechers. I see my work downloaded at
incredible rates
and sometimes noone ever comments. They just download for the sake of it.
And then there is the upload factor. About 30 scans in an hour is it? or was it
60?
Its great but!. Only so many scans fit on 1 page. Then you get pushed
backwards
and all you are left with is the odd leecher that drops by whenever he
goes to a category.
The double or sometimes TRIPLE posting of scans is also a huge factor
as the last member said. And as far as crap concerned, yes. yes there
ARE crap scans being uploaded. Just look further than your nose Bloodlust.
and by crap I mean crap quality. not content.
[edit]Well actually. Sometimes the CONTENT too.
Just LOOK at all the AMERICAN COMIC scans.
This server is called Minitokyo isnt it? and not MiniNewYork?
NOw all this pushing and pulling. I don't know exactly WHAT the strain
on the newly aqquiered server computer is, but isnt it just slightly possible
that
in all of this chaos , THIS is why you are having connection and speed probs?
correct me if im wrong though, because its something thats been on my mind for a
week now.
Well maybe there are a lot more members than before ( I can't really know havn't
been around as long as you have) so more items get submitted but on the other
side more people get to see your submissions. and if you go trough the mt
history the earlier submissions you see that nowadays submissions get more fav's
and comment than they used to.
I for one try to go through all the new submissions when I get the chance. and
make comments to the pic's I like. So there must be more people going through
the sub's ( I sometimes get comment after a couple of days.) What exactly do you
consider leechers?
...Well. the kind that doesnt comment on your work, and just downloads for the
sake of having everything on teh intarnet.
Like I have a piece of artwork on here thats been downloaded about 200 times
already,
and nobody ever commented. Now I cant imagine none of them had
anything to say. the reply window is just below it. and i give well enough
descriptions too.
Okay it sounds maybee again like I desperatly WANT comments like Bloodlust
suggested,
but dont get me wrong, if users dont wanna do it thats fine by me.
And you can also flip me off and tell me my artwork sucks if you think it
does,
gives me more input to correct myself.
Only I think its darnright RUDE when you have so many people downing you work
without saying the least of things. It just beeing taken for granted.
I guess you cant stop it.
But what I am focussingon the MOST is the incredible rate
of uploads, that make the normal users not even notice your work
because they are gone within 60 sec at page 44.
Like i sed, its due to double posting, crap scans or artwork,
and its probably why mt is going so slow too.
Well I can understand how you feel
Whatever I download from here, I will input a comment on it, usually with
something that you can improve
However I am not compentant artist, so I don't upload scans or artwork
Perhaps we can try a system of approving wallpapers before they can be uploaded
here
Like say you upload a completed version of the wallpaper to somewhere else(lots
of free image hosting websites around) then we have people judge it first and if
it passes that it can be uploaded here
Well I gotta say that on a personal note, there's nothing that disappoints me
more, than when you spend a week on a wallpaper, post it up on the board and it
stays on the main page for all of 20 minutes, because it's flooded by posts of
scans people "turn into wallpapers" by resizing it and adding a moon
to the background, or some clouds or texture, or other otherwise small detail
that took them all of 45 seconds to do.. and then proceed to post 10 of these in
a row.
But... quite frankly "dems da breaks". $hit happens. Move on. People
that are interested in your work typically will add you to their friends list so
they don't miss what you've posted, others will do searches for walls that
interest them and if they come upon yours might like it and also add you to
their friends list. Your work will be seen, so it's not all for
naught.
I'd personally like to see the walls on the main page randomize on each re-load
based on what was uploaded in the last 12 hours or something like that.
I'm not sure there is any real good way to resolve this issue. While you might
be able to post standards, there is always going to be some differences in how
people seen things and judge them. For some, a work may be junk, others may see
really good art. Also, I'm not sure how you could limit things so that new
items don't get pushed off rather quickly.
Without being more draconian, I don't think much else can be done.
Who honestly needs to be uploading more that 5-10 things in ONE day!? Thats
crazy. Quality over Quantity. Anytime volume gets high quality goes down, thats
a fact. Unless someone is unloading a body of work that they have kept to them
self for a while. Unlimited uploads should be a harder level to reach, in fact
it should be something that is given or something that you need to request then
voted on by higher level members.
Some thoughts on leechers: First, I can understand the motivation to grab every
decent wall in sight. I have been browsing small, independent wall creator's
websites for a number of years. I quickly noticed a disturbing trend. For any
given site, chances are that the owner will lose the passion for walling. This
is almost always followed by the immediate closing of the site without warning.
Further, they don't seem to upload their works to any other sites so that people
can still get them. That gets incredibly annoying, and one quickly learns to
grab anything of interest right away. When they come here, they continue the
tradition.
It makes me wonder, what would happen if the owner of MT were to lose interest
one day and decide that he wants nothing to do with the site anymore? Would it
be closed down or would someone else continue?
As for comments, sometimes I have intelligent things to say and sometimes I
don't. Given that I am an extreme novice waller (I'm still working on my first
wall; it's a lot harder than it looks to make something good), I don't have the
PS experience to offer good advice. I could do like many people and post
mindless back patting like "really nice wall" etc. However, that
doesn't help anyone. Well, maybe it makes them feel better, but it's still
sub-optimal.
As to the whole concept of leechers in relation to wallpapers, .....wtf? When
people leech fansubs off direct download sites at 230mb a pop, that's leeching.
When people have a share ratio of 3% on bittorrent, that's leeching. But on a
wallpaper site.....? I can understand not wanting people to download excessive
amounts of scans (well, even that is kind of pushing it), but wallpapers as
well?
Personally, I don't like the us-vs-them attitude but it seems to be all the rage
on MT. (pun intended)

Well, I happen to have several GB of artbooks
that I downloaded a long time ago just sitting around my hard drive. The
biggest problem is determining if a scan is already in the gallery. I spend
hours and hours checking (which really sucks since the site loads so slow).
Not to be offensive in anyway, but your argument doesn't really make any sense.
So what, if people do comment of look at your wall. Think about how many people
are browsing MT at one moment. So, just because no one is interested in YOUR
work, you complain? What about some other people who have really great walls,
that actually get a lot of downloads AND comments? Well, is it just because a
lot of people coincidentally saw it and commented. No. It's because they liked
it. So, in at one moment in time, while your work is just submitted and is
still on the first page or two. Hundreds of people see your work, but no one
is interested enough to take a look. There.
well I guess this one is going nowhere anyway, your right.
forget the whole thing. The only hting I CAN say without being#
wrong is that pretty soon, MT will face another connection crisis because it
is
goign wrong already. Sometimes whole pages have images missing. or the pages
dont load at all.
