It depends on if the hero has a past attachment with the villain. Like if the villain has killed someone the hero cares about. Then I like the villain more. If the villain is just some random dude who has nothing to do with the hero's life besides being evil then that is just lame. I like villain-hero relationships.

As much as I adore evil winning, I voted that it depends on the character. I mean, some of the villians in anime are just stupid. :P

Before the last Harry Potter book I would say that I was impervious to the lure of villians.. but I still love Snape after the Half-blood Prince... I so love villians, and anime has some of the sexiest villians >.<

Yeah, some anime villains are really cool. I especially love anime when a villain surprisingly helps the good guys, or changes sides. But that usually ends with that particular villain dying <_<

Villans all the way, but it also depends on the villan, if they don't look cool, or kind of stupid (like most cartoon villans are) I prefere the people that aren't main, the in between people

Villains unite! Yes, I am with the Dark Side all the way. Of course, there are stupid villains, but I dont count them. Im talking the real guys..
Darth Vader
Lord Palpatine
Frieza
Kagato
Dilandau
Char Aznable(regardless of his motives, he WAS the villain in the series)
..and SO many more. Truly, villains make the series. After all, they`re the ones who drive the conflict, provide the angst, the sorrow, the passion, basically they`re what allows the heroes to BE heroes.Besides, look at my sig, you *know* I love villains.

Usually I like the good guys. I mean, the world would suck if most villians ruled the world. But sometimes the bad guys are equally as interesting and compelling(not to mention sexy). Sometimes villians are way over-rated because of their looks and what people project on them.
