pls. reflect on this quotation, one of my favorites, by Voltaire:

"If God does not exist, it is necessary to invent him."

Hey i think im making an anime out from this quote :)

to make it short: god is your sense of life, if you dont have it you should better invent it because else you tend to think of your life as something useless. normaly that causes a lot of conflicts in the human brain and can lead to commiting suicide ... and you really dont want that now do you?.

that's it.

Hope is an optimist

Yes yes Jean Jacques Roussow (spelling?) said that.

Bottom line - see above

Life is a game played by gods who are bored and who fight over the rules.

The idea behind the quote is that if mankind were finally convinced that there was no God, he would give into his baser desires and behave in a most boorish and violent fashion, that our civil society would collaspse.

And I'm convinced that is what is happening to our society even now. Day by day our world grows more and more secular, to the point where those of Faith are ridiculed and mocked for their beliefs. It's almost in vogue now to mock Christians, for example.
Don't believe me? Here's a quote from a recent episode of Family Guy, "Christians don't believe in Gravity"

Now, we have rises in assualts against women and children, people advocating the use of drugs, college campuses airing what amounts to pornograhpy and calling it "art" or "social science", elementary school kids being quizzed on their knowledge of sex, courts saying that kids shouldn't be monitored by their parents, and the widespread sale of things like the Girls Gone Wild videos, which portray young women behaving in a wantonly base and vulgar fashion, rather than having genuine intamacy.

So-called "Intellectuals" have tried to seperate spirituality from morality, but it really doesn't work.

I hate to disillusion you, but spirituality is only linked to morality if you are spiritual. Those of us who are not and never were spiritual have morality that exists regardless of any spiritual concerns. There is no evidence to suggest people of faith are more moral than atheists; it is just what the people of faith choose to believe.

People need something to believe in, something that gives sense to their lifes, that answers the questions they ask, that gives them faith and makes them strong. For some people it's god, for some it's science, nature and life itself. People needed gods in the past, since they weren't on such a level as today. In the present time, the number of people believing in science is increasing and I think it will increase with time, when our civilization grows. But many people still need a god and that is necessery for now and will be for a long time.

up up and away

I beleve Nietzsche has said that if religion were to fall or vanish, mankind will destroy themselves in the process. Now, unlike Nietzsche, I do beleve in a god, but I do understand what he is saying and do agree with him there.

I think if God ceased to exist, then religion would collapse but the people wouldn't change much at all. They might create a new God as they are such insecure and lovely little creatures and then the churches and religions would re emerge to skim the cream and the new benefits. And then comes the wonderful subjigation of the people

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

Quincy Archer Hates You

People created God in the beginning because they were merely searching for an explanation for the things that they couldn't understand.

Then, they found God was a useful way to promote the morals of whatever society any particular god was in.

Religious people believe that everyone needs a god in order to keep them doing good, and in some cases, it is the belief in God or gods that has stopped people from doing things they would regret later.

But for people who do not believe in God, we've discovered that God is not completely necessary in order to do good--instead, we abide by our own moral compasses and decide what is right based on the world around us.

However, if there was no belief in God or any religions, I think the world would be a much worse place in many ways than it was now, so I respect all religions for that.

On the flip side, though, people have been driven by religion to do terrible things, and wars over religion have taken innocent lives and torn up entire countries.

So I think religion is fine, but the tolerance part we need to work on. God doesn't solve everything. Humans inhabit this world, so in the end, humans need to make it better.
