Well usual you can understand the hole story from the 1st episode. But for example in the anime Gungrave the first episode was completly deferent from the others.. :) . Its amazing when you see something that you don't except .. ! :D

I'm pretty good at seeing where the direction is heading (otherwise known as predictibility). Obviously, a show like GunGrave that starts off at a later period of time and backtracks is one that's hard to figure out from the beginning.

Most of the time we can guess where the story will head (even if we CANT deduce the whole plot) from the 1st episode. And it is logical, the firts episode of an anime are used to set the characters and the plot so ...... ^^
