try this site. it might help.

*.m4a is a format that is mostly used by Apple.
In other words you can open that file by using iTunes.

If you don't have iTunes, download and install it.
iTunes comes bundle with Quicktime.

*.m4a is Apple's unprotected format
*.m4p is Apple's protected format.

Got a link for you. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ You can get Quicktime from there, and iTunes should be easy enough to find in the links (I think someone said it installs with QT too) so enjoy.

Another question please: can't i open it with WMP?

wait, where were those people are going to?

Apple as well as other player large player companies, when they
created a format, they would mostly like users to play it on their
own player. In other Words, you can not play that *.m4a on Windows Media
Player. You must use QuickTime or iTunes which is also created by Apple.

Bussiness competition, hey what can you do? :hmpf:

Here are some sample format and its only playable player.

*.ram *.rm: re real media formats and it can only be played in Real Player
*.wma *.wmv: are Windows Media format and it can only be played in
Windows Media Player.
*.m4a *.m4p: Apple format, play only in QuickTime or iTunes.

Hmm...
RAM files are real players files and it can not be played by using wmp.
I've tried it a dozen times and it just does not work.
I've used real player to play ram files.

You might have a alternative version of wmp which is not the one that
is made by Microsoft itself, but by some other 3rd party site.

e.g. Windows Media Classic.

You can try opening it with WMP
Just do a backup of the song, before playing it.
Also run a virus scan, because some my be bogus m4a files.

Ram files can be played in WMP, ever heard of the Real Alternative codec? Same for Quicktime with the Quicktime Alternitive codec. You can play quicktime .mov files and real .rm .ram files in MPC or WMP or any other player, even winamp can do it.
