Here's a short definition I got from google:
an alien organism, erroneously believed to be an "Ancient." It landed on Planet millennia ago, prompting the creation of Weapon; the Ancients defeated and imprisoned it, but it was uncovered by Shinra and, along with Ifalna, researched by Dr. Gast. Hojo used its DNA to create and subsequently clone Sephiroth. she's an alien used to create sephiroth and his clones. they infused jenova cells into soldiers to try to remake sephiroth, but ended up with cloud.
