I'd say VLC or MPC. Personally, I like MPC.

The good side of VLC is that it's got his own codec pack, but sometimes it fails to play a certain types of files, personally I use CCCP codec pack with Media Player Classic and additional Alternative codecs to play quicktime and realtime files and it works perfect.

I use Windows Media Player and downloaded the Combined Community Codec Pack. It lets me play everything. You can download the pack here: http://www.cccp-project.net/.

Media Player Classic...
If its filesize of 4mb is too big for you, then compress it using PECompact.
I shrunk mine to half, and it's still functional.- Feb 06, 2008

Just follow this article, and you'll be able to play almost anything: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/installing-media-player-classic-step-step-guide.htm
Or you could just read this one, it has some alternatives you can use: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-windows-media-player-replacement.htm

Don't use VLC. Seriously, especially if you're watching anime.
For windows: get Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) and Windows Media Player. Best combo. For Mac: get MPlayer extended.

Yes I agree CCCP! plays pretty much everything out there too :D
My brother likes VLC though but has never used CCCP, I've used both (VLC a very long time ago).A moment bound in eternity.
