I say it a tie. I saw both the Ring and Ringu, now it's time for ju-on/The Grudge. I wouls say Asian horror is more mood scary than jumpy/slasher scarry. Though, did any one catch The Exorcist: Beginnings? Wow creepy moddy and bloody...
Another good choice is Cradle of Fear, not scary so much as funny.
And then there's the ever wonderful Evil Dead I & II & III: Army of Darkness.
