new vector project, need some suggestions on the eyes

I've been working on my second vector and its just about complete, but there is one part that is giving me some trouble, the eyes. Usually this isn't a problem, but the combination of a low quality source and different eye style has made it more of a challenge. I'm looking for some suggestions on how to improve the look of the eyes cause even though the vector is very close to the original, something still looks off to me about them. The character in question is Torako from Hyakko, I've posted a comparison of the eyes from the vector vs. the original image.

Looks alright as it is, but you can always try using gradients if you find the colors don't quite work or blend into each other ^_^
