Only for those who have a looooot of time on their hands and have nothing better to do
or don't want to do it:
The only section you might wanna read is the 'ELITE and HIGHLIGHT' section, so just skip directly to that if
you don't wanna waste your time :P
MT provides many different ways in which you can browse it's wallpaper and indy art and scans image gallery. But have you ever notice the url when we click on those links to sort by 'popular' or 'recent' etc.? Well, i being a part nerd, i wanted to see all the ways in which i can browse mt, and found new ways to browse it, which you can't do without editing the url.
There are also some new ways of browsing which you can't do without editing urls.
But these extra ways of sorting weren't really so necessary and hence the options to do that weren't provided
on the site page. But in rare cases in which you really wanna sort that way, well now you can, after you read this huge
post.
SAMPLE URL
here's a sample url which'll help you browse wallpapers
http://gallery.minitokyo.net/wallpapers?order=id&tid=&elite=0&highlight=0&dim=
this url will take you to wallpaper section sorted as 'recent' all sizes and even non-highlighted/elite works.
ACCESSING SECTIONS
now, by changing the 'wallpapers' to 'scans' or 'indy-art' in the above url you can see
the scans or indy arts section. However you can do this simply by clicking the appropriate links in the gallery
too.
REFINING SEARCH
after you write wallpapers/indy-art/scans, the '?' as you can see in the url will enable you to type further
things in the url which will help you refine your search as per your wish. Various variables(mentioned after this) allow
you to search in different ways. Each variable is separated with an '&' in the url (see sample url to
verify)
SORTING ORDER
first variable is 'order'. When you click on 'popular', the value of the variable 'order'
becomes 'favorites', and if you click on 'recent', the value becomes 'id'.. just check the
thing written after 'order=' in the url next time you click on those links to verify.
However, there are also other values that can be used for 'order'
order: Variable order must be one of these values: id, favorites, views, comments.
See the two other values 'views' and 'comments'. That is, you can sort your walls/scans/indy arts by
the number of views they have and even the number of comments they have.
However, for the sorting by views, there's a problem for scans(not for walls or indy arts) that some scan-uploaders
re-upload their scans with a newer better version sometimes. And when that happens, the 'views' count that the
scan had before getting refreshed is cleared and it starts again from '0'. Hence it's not a very reliable
way of browsing scans by views. But people don't re-upload walls/indy arts mostly(i haven't seen anyone do
that) Hence you can reliably see scans in a sorted manner on basis of the views and comments they received.
TID's
TID(Tag ID) is a serial number given to any tag on its formation. You can see the ID of every tag by clicking on it, and
then seeing the scans/walls/indy arts of the tag and then see the url of it. You'll notice something like this:
http://browse.minitokyo.net/gallery?tid=4699&index=1
the tag here is 'Conan Edogawa' and the its number is 4699. the variable index has 3 values: 1,2,3. 1 for
wallpaper gallery of Conan Edogawa, 2 for scans gallery and 3 for indy arts gallery. Now try replacing 4699 in the url
with 9001. You'll be taken to wallpaper gallery of 'Pizza'. Why? Because 9001 is TID of pizza.
But, for browsing general gallery of tags, all options have been made available, so for now, it's useless to play with TID in url.
ELITE and HIGHLIGHT
these variables, when its value is '0' (as can bee seen in the sample url) you see the entire gallery, not
only elite/highlighted works. But when it's value is '1', it shows you ONLY elite/highlighted works as
follows:
if you set elite=1, then you see BOTH elite and highlighted works regardless of the value of highlight. But if you set
elite=0 and highlight=1, then you see only highlighted works of the gallery.
One more thing that you probably didn't know: there was a time when there were
highlighted scans on MT
So if you paste
http://gallery.minitokyo.net/scans?elite=1&highlight=0&display=extensive,
then you're supposed to see 'elite' scans. But you just see the normal scans gallery with each scan with
an elite thumbnail xD So, i guess there's no way to browse for elite scans or maybe there just aren't any
elite scans.
If you paste: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/scans?elite=0&highlight=1&display=extensive
in your url, then you'll see highlighted scans.
So that's a good way to search some old and good scans :)
and you can also search for highlighted scans in the order of their popularity by pasting this in the url: http://gallery.minitokyo.net/scans?order=favorites&tid=&elite=1&highlight=1&display=extensive
(you may also enter the tid of the tag of whose highlighted scans you want to see)
(note that the extra &display=extensive makes sure that you can see the elite or highlight icons on those scans. If
you don't write that in the url, you'll still see those scans, but not the icons)
DIM
Variable dim must be one of these values: 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x854, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1400x1050, 1600x1200,
2048x1536, 2560x2048, 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1366x768, 1440x900, 1600x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 1920x1200,
2048x1080, 2048x1152, 2560x1440, 2560x1600, 2304x864, 2048x768, 2560x960, 2560x1024, 3840x1200, 4096x1536, 1024x1024.
unfortunately, you cannot enter any other value than this, or you can't search like 'search images
'larger/smaller' than this size' either.
This option is only available for wallpapers when you select a size from the dropdown list on the wallpapers gallery
page.
But it can also be used for scans!
Now, there aren't many scans that fit in these sizes, but some sizes work for scans too.. just try it by method of
trial and error, there are 4-5 sizes from above that scans are commonly found in.
Please share it if you know any more 'hidden' ways of browsing mt ;)
