Well this is one of the few moments that a feeling you can't get out of your head. I recently made a vectoring Aoi wall (which I an so proud of) because there are few vectoring walls or arts here (Except for Tama-Neko) Sure that vectoring is difficult at time but in the end, the work is worth it and it looks great. I mean I was surprised that few ppl commented on my first vectored wall putting all the hours to practice AND trace the pic at the same day and the following days. And the vectored wall was my hardest one yet. But when I post a non vectored wall however, more ppl commented it, good or bad comments. Why is that? Sure at first I was a little hesitant at doing vectored work but seeing that I WANT to do something different that makes it worthwhile. Hell, my brother was impressed that I did the vectored Aoi at my first try. And he's great at Illustrator. Makes me feel like I did something different besides extracting the character and jazz up the background. Vectoring is a hard time consuming thing (believe me!) but you're doing something different. What do you think? Am I wrong? Did making a vectored wall was a mistake?

No, it definitely wasn't. ;)
i also make Vector Pics a few times.
But it seems that the People here don't like this Kind of Wallpaper.
I think they prefer those with the 100 Effects and the Hyper Stock Quality. ^^

And don't forget, there are also Kids here that aren't really old (12-15?) and they get attracted by Effects and Colors.

Perhaps that's why you didn't get so much Comments, even though it was your hardest Work on Effort.

i know vector is so hard
it feel like u draw the whole chara all over
and i really appreciate that
it feels like u make a fan-art or doujinshi of it
well maybe ppl more like sexy wall or great effect wall
but still i highly appreciate someone that make their own chara ^^

okay....I'm still new...ummmm...what is vectoring.....please.....I'm a little ignorant to the art world....so bare with me......

I like vectoring, but it's true in general it's just not as good looking as the real thing. You have to appreciate it for itself I think. And if you don't really understand the work that goes into it, you don't appreciate it as much.

I do appreciate it but it mostly images get grainy or trying to regc some parts ppl with sharp eyes can see it. My brothers do vectoring mostly. I saying that it sometimes go unappreciated... I mostly do the real thing but it get a bit boring to me so I decided to do more vectoring.

Vectoring is something I just recently got into, I've even made my first vector wallpaper, yay! that was real fun. I've spent like a few days vectoring one image for the wallpaper and man did that feel like it killed me lol. Yea I do believe it goes unappreciated probably becuase most people don't see how much work goes into making a vector image. They just see it as another effect to an image rather then a bunch of layers.

to be honest, i took design class 2 years ago, because i thought that im quite good at manual drawing (well at least thats my opinion) altho im too lazy to draw, and i can use photoshop a little. well, at the first term, we were taught photoshop and the basics, and i can still get used to it, after the second term, when were supposed to use vector, like coreldraw and freehand, hell i hv hard times doing my coursework! in the end, i ended up stop taking design class anymore^^
well ded, i understand ur feeling vector requires more work, but i think messing with photograph is also hard, umm..., but i personally love vectors more, but im so down after comparing my work with my classmates', they're all so great at vectoring and pixeling ^^

Vector art Is all I think about, If it's grainy I won't deal with it auto - delete

i'm that picky lol :\

vector arts at least to me do not go unappereciated.

I do vectors too, I'm still learning... I don't have any in my gallery but on my website I do. I'm trying to make some better ones before I post any in MT :)

Vectoring is the most advanced method of walling, imho
i myself also learning to do vectoring job (check out my kazuki vector at my gallery)
but still not very good at it.
I think vector should get more appreciation, because it takes much harder work than just extracting... and takes more time... :D
but if I got a scan, and it's good enough, then why bother vectoring? ^_^'
just for some scans that are too grainy/blocked by texts/incomplete ones...
but that's just me...

Basically, I don't think vectoring has "caught on" yet. Remember a few years ago when 3d abstract backgrounds were the "in" thing? Now it's scenerics. Vector is and possibly will remain a fringe style, like grunge - there will be people who specialize in it and do great work, but I don't think it will likely become mainstream - I don't think it will every truely "catch on".
I like vectors because I can do it quickly; frankly, it would take me longer to extract and clean an image via typical Photoshop methods than to just trace a clean image. I feel it gives me more liberties with the image (such as the time I reduced the size of Motoko's breasts because they were simply way too unrealistic.) I also enjoy experimenting within the sector. I've done simple backgrounds, abstract backgrounds, sceneric backgrounds, texture backgrounds, and I see plenty more possibilities in the future.
In short, it's a style, and it's not a very popular style (yet?), thus putting it on the fringe. There also are few people dedicated to this style (I can think of myself and Crapmonster who consistently do vector walls here at MT) and there's only so much we can do.
Like it for what it is. :)

I think by most people, yes. I need to get better at vector graphics before I'll post anything. It's what happens behind the scenes in photoshop. I'm afraid I won't do it well, and that's why I keep it to myself. Ha, I'm such a perfectionist. People who do vector art really well just make me go "ooooooooohhhhhh pretty", and fave it.

I don't think it's really caught on, so it's very overlooked and underappreciated. But, after all, it is what it is, and if you like it, great. If not, that's fine too. To each their own, right?

You kinda should use both. Draw the anime, scan it. Vector trace it. Then add your bitmap effects, shading lighting, etc.

Hmm. I used to draw anime a long time ago but something happened that make me not want to draw and post up. Maybe it can change.

Vectoring back to school

Personally, I like both types... Vector images can be resized to any dimensions and still look great. Regular raster image creation is easier to do quick sketches, but I prefer to use paper pencil for that work and scan it in later.
In the past, I've also used the vector Pen tool in Photoshop to aid me sharpen lines when I retouch images for banners on a weblog I used to do. I just don't have enough control to draw with a mouse. (default size? 2000 X 640 starting canvas, and close on 1600 X 640).

Vectoring is extremely popular right now, because of some of the larger art groups have taken a liking to the flexability of the medium. All the artists submitting work at threadless.com are vector artists, and artgroups like depthcore and balanceculture are heavily based around the form.

I must admit that I was not a huge of vectors before joining Minitokyo. It's because most of the vectors I had seen we're only done in colors with no black lines to seperate each section from the next (don't know if my explanation is correct....) but I still admitted that it takes a whole lot of work to create a vectored art and seeing some of the great works here in MT, I'm quickly warming up to the style.

vectoring is cool. i like it a lot too. bring that "different" into the wallp. but somhow those "glitter in the sky" wallp alwqays attract my friend more. guess many people do have many preference. including in their selection of wallpi.

vector arts is great, in my opinion, it cost more SP to create it XD
off course bitmap wallpaper isn't bad either, each one have their own beauty
but when you talk about vector, the coolest part about it is that it can be resized as big as you want without loosing its resolution ^_^
It a best source to make a sticker out of it :)
