See that's interesting - but it's common in other mediums too. Essays, reports and books? Credit your sources. Music? Credit your samples. Improving/revising freeware code? All parties involved are usually credited at the top of the source code. Heck, even in my graduate classes we're copying and learning from other art masters and allowed to put our results in our portfolios - they just need to say "original art by..." It's just an inherent honor system. So you see, I feel walling is no different as long as credit is given where it is due.

The problem with DN is how much personal information they're requiring in order to report a claim. They have no right to demand that information, especially if they don't disclose how that info will be used. >|

Ah, and good to hear the news about that guy on DN responding and taking some sort of action. I didn't see any of mine uploaded by him, but lol "look better" without sigs?! I hope someone educates him about how wrong he is, on multiple levels. DN also has a kind of duplicate wall detection system, so it's better if at least one of your intact walls with the sig stays on there rather than none at all, so that repeat offenders don't keep uploading cropped/edited versions of our stuff. In other words, with an acceptable credited copy of a wall on there, it is much easier to prevent unintended edited duplications from being uploaded, and if any do get through, the dupes are easier to report/delete. This is why on most places, I tell the person to change the file to the proper intact file I intended for use, or delete it entirely if they "can't" do that (lol).

In that sense, last night I was able to edit/remove several walls of mine as listed on the first page, bottom post. :) Just be civil and say please and thank you - then the admins/mods there will typically listen and understand.

Ok lumberjacck has replied that most of them have been removed, well there's more to process and I just sent him the 3rd batch. He actually replied to my email again saying

I actually asked an admin. yesterday why all the personal info was needed for a copyright claim. I asked and told them that I didn't understand why I had to give my personal information when I could simply prove its mine on 3 different sites which all usually list emails publicly to prove i'm the same person as well as i'm sure verifying in ip address. I explained to them that I think most people are intimidated by filing such a report with all the private info when it could be so much more simple.
I received a reply back from this person and ill show a few snippets of it: One that got me was:

Ok than-than tell me why Akiranyo's wallpaper is still there by this person with the sig. off when he has talked to this same person about this previously already. Its also uploaded there by Aki already. D:

Honestly though, wouldn't it be much easier just take them down after doing some research through the person making the claim and looking at their other sites? It would be a lot less hassle and a lot quicker if you ask me? :/

I also brought up a point to them after they said to me that they make sure its in the rules that you are not allowed to remove signatures,and/or edit other peoples art and after they said

@srsn usually I wouldn't mind my wallpapers being uploaded anywhere else as long as the signature is left on. It's never bothered me,I make them to share anyways and as long as proper credit is left in place than sure go for it. But after all this, I don't wish for any of my stuff to be on that site.

@Mibelle: I've already emailed lumberjacck under the 3rd batch of list of walls and he will remove that wallpaper shortly because he has already removed the 2nd batch of wallpapers. I've acted on this because I saw that it's a wallpaper with signature off.

Actually, the admins doesn't handle DMCA. For one thing, he should have replied when he noticed that the wallpaper in question is no longer in the gallery when I emailed him about it.

which I think is their way of getting away with it because people will feel intimidated filling it up and sometimes end up not filing a report.

So I've PMed the uploaders/rippers themselves. I actually spotted 2 already one is lumber_jacck where my sig is cloned to cover it and another one is cropped. Both of them removed it already so I guess approaching the rippers is easier. NOTE SAY PLEASE AND THANK YOU!

One thing that I understood is that they have a nag for sticking with DMCA, I've also noticed, since you've also got an account over there you can upload your walls personally and then report all other duplicates.

We also know that any art that is on the internet(unprotected by a watermark) can be found in many places besides the home gallery, and might have already been cropped of markings by someone else. If a picture does not have those symbols, it is thought to be available for use. We don't know if the markings were already removed when our members find it.

and also thanks for informing me about your last statement, but I think searching for each of your wall and reporting that even though there is sig is gonna leave me dying unless you do it like the duplicate thing issue I mentioned above.

They've answered the questions I asked though, via you, Mibelle lol, and really short answers too.

Idk how that site is operated but generally, mods are well, human and busy-ish so sometimes under pressure, their responses come off sounding a bit... high-handed. Don't kill me, mods! Still, hahaha, why not make the DMCA Reporting Laws clearer by linking to something that states actual terms and conditions regarding the works and the people involved, instead of just linking to a Wikipedia article? ^^; I think I'll stick to contacting the uploaders or the site themselves.
(I just know I'm going to look back at these sentences and cringe)

@srsn: If you need wall-searching partners... I can help, maybe in less than an hour or so. I think you might be able to use the Google Image Search on the walls though, just type Desktop Nexus, or maybe even the user's name after the image in the search box. ^^; Maybe I should have mentioned that earlier.

Erm, maybe I'm just confused but what help is it that you were wanting, actually? Is it getting in contact with him/mods about deleting the walls, or is it identifying which walls have to go per request of waller? ^^;

Well, I might go round some of the MT wallers' galleries and image search them for that site - and yup, I'll focus on one DN user at a time for convenience..
I kinda feel also that the mods there are inclined to do things like just plain delete walls/ban people if they think we're making too much noise, in an attempt to make the job easier on them. lol I forgot that that's what mods do at other sites...
