Hum... just something i wondered for quite a long time now, it's a question for all stairway to heaven fans out there : listening to the lyrics, doesn't it remind you in any way of Tolkien's work on middle earth. the first line having a strong similarity with the poem of Strider (all that is gold does not glitter), and then there's the elve's longing for the west, and woods, and also "rings of smoke", and "there's two paths you can go by" refering to the ring bearer or something?
i gues i might not be the first one realising that though ^_^'

I've only heard of Iron Maiden, Zeppelin, Whitesnake, and Megadeth out of those. Megadeth being the one I dislike. Iron Maiden is kind of its own breed, so don't expect to find any similar bands. Don't forget that half the kids here have no idea what heavy metal is. To suggest Linkin Park when asking for heavy metal. Shame on you, Soul Scholar. Anyways, a good Zeppelin follow-up would be the Moody Blues. If you're getting into 80s metal, I'd suggest Motley Crüe. The best metal band ever. I'd also take a look into The Darkness. The Darkness isn't too heavy metal, but Justin the lead singer is British and has a nuts in a vice falcetto. You can't ask for much else. If you like those, check out Van Halen. Eventually, just get into the big bands of the 80s. With that said, good luck.

Well, since you have been listening to Iron Maiden perhaps you would like to listen the tribute CD named A Tribute to the Beast, nice set of covers. And for more clasic metal try:
Anthrax - Persistence of Time (More Trashy sound)
Cathedral
Judas Priest - Painkiller (Speed Metal)
Slayer (Trash)
Nocturnal Rites - After Life, The Sacred Talisman (clasical metal)
Black Sabbath (the oldest stuff, when Ozzy was a member)
Therion - Lemuria/Sirius B, Deggial, Bovin (Sort of Doom Metal, but more like Instrumental Gothic ;) )
Fear Factory - Demanufacture, Archetype
Helloween
KreatorAs for cool metal stuff to hear that is not sooo clasical I'm listening to a lot of Gothic you may check this ones:
After Forever
Artrosis
Charon
Craddle of Filth (amazing Black Metal band)
Dark Tranquility
Draconian
Dreams of Sanity
Epica
Eternal Tears of Sorrow
H.I.M. (His Infernal Majesty)
Lacrimas Profundere
Lacuna Coil
Leave's Eyes
Macbeth
Moonspell
My Dying Bride
Nightwish (by the way nice choice for a CD, you may also want to check the album named Once)
Paradise Lost (my personal favorite band ever!!)
Penumbra
Persephone (a brand new group that sounds very dramatic)
Poisonblack
Sentenced
Sirenia
The 69 Eyes
The Gathering
The Sins of Thy Beloved
Theatre of Tragedy
Tiamat
To Die For
Trail of Tears
Tristania (The masters of Gothic)
Type O' Negative
Within TemptationAnd I just thought of this idea... why are there so many groups on MT devoting to a certain rock or metal band?... METAL should be united!!!
There is nothing you can do... yes I've lost my faith in you.

I'm not a big heavy metal fan but I do like the occasion Metallica and Guns 'n Roses when the mood is right (though that's already been mentioned). I'll take classic rock/metal rather than modern rock/metal anyday. Isn't Linkin Park rock? I quite like their stuff.
