Theme of the round: “Go Retro”
What does “retro” mean? In the context of walling, retro refers to pre-vectoring techniques - that is, what you had to work with when vectoring wasn’t as popular: renders, textures, brushes etc. (see below for a short explanation of each).
This round is dedicated to bringing back that particular style, which is why vectoring is not allowed unless it’s used for fixing minor bits of the image (e.g. reconstructing very small parts). You have to do the extracting/blending/cleaning yourself, no relying on already clean vectors and no using someone else's vector ^_~
Don’t know what to do? Take a look at the older works submitted on Minitokyo to get a feel of what “retro walling” is :)

Rules
+ All the general rules from the first announcement apply, as do the ones listed in the MT Policy.
+ You may use vectoring to fix certain parts of the image (e.g. a few small hair strands or a cutoff shoulder), but vectoring MUST NOT be the focus! (so you can’t use a vector in place of a render)
+ There are no restrictions placed on the subject of the wall; you can wall whatever series/game you want!
+ You must send your entries via PM to Mai-chan, without a signature or description! Make sure to specify the subject as “Knockout Round 1 entry”.
+ The minimum resolutions you can submit your entry in are 1600 x 1200 (regular), 1920 x 1080 (HD) and 1920 x 1200 (widescreen). Of course, you can submit higher resolutions if you want to (see the list of accepted resolutions). You don’t need to send us all three resolutions, just the one you’d like to enter :)
+ Don’t post your wallpaper (with or without your signature) anywhere else on the Internet until after the round is over i.e. the results are announced!
+ You may request help! PM Mai-chan with the subject “Round 1 Help!” and she will ask one of our lovely helpers to lend you a hand~ This is totally secret, though!
----------------------------
The deadline for sending in entries is Sunday, the 17th of August 2014!
However, the round will be over sooner if everyone sends in their entries by then :)

Questions and Answers
1. Are we allowed to repaint/vector elements in the background? Or does it have to be
all from stock photos/brushes/other scans etc?
Vectoring is only allowed if you want to fix something minor (like a shoulder or a strand of hair being cut-off). You
should use it as little as possible and definitely not for completely vectoring characters or anything in the background
- but if it's reconstructing a small part, it's OK.
There are no restrictions on painting, so go crazy >w<
2. The use of pentool as a method of image extraction is allowed right?
Yes it is!
3. and what about shapes?
Yes you can use simple shapes :3 But try not to use too many, shapes still count as vectors!
4. How do you want us to attach our submission to the PM?
Upload your image to an image host and send the link to it to Mai-chan via PM~
5. Are we allowed to do scan fixing like I did here?
Yes, you can paint however much you want! Just don't use vectoring too much!
----------------------------
What does it all mean? o.O
vectoring = recreating the image completely with help from the Pen Tool.
render = a part of the image - most often the character(s) - that is extracted from its background. Most renders come in
.PNG format.
textures = images that can be overlaid on top of other images to enhance the look of the latter (e.g. placing a wood
texture on a desk prevents it from looking too plastic-like).
brushes = rasterized (not vectored) shapes that can be used to quickly paste an object that would otherwise take up a
lot of time (e.g. cloud brushes). Brushes are also used in digital painting.
